Kiwi Chinese & Thai restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

This review is written to reflect the service. We had dinner on 4 Sep and although the food was okay the service was downright scary. It all started with our host who sat us, did not speak a word to us, and threw the place mats on our table landing on our party’s hands. The whole time, we saw the annoyance all across his face. We then saw him calling to the other wait staff like dogs across the room to come help him move stuff. Then we got our waiter who was okay, took our orders, and never came back. We decided to leave the restaurant after we were done eating and sat there for about 30 minutes with our empty plates in front of us. Anyway, we got up and went to the register then we were told to go and sit back down, that the waiter would bring the check to our table. We could not go back to our table as it was being clean. Anyway, we were told to sit in a table next to the cash register, then we received our bill and we went to the counter to let them know we wanted to split the bill, the pregnant lady started screaming like crazy calling for our waiter telling him “ugh... they want their check split... ugh”. Our waiter helped us, and while he was doing that, the crazy pregnant lady started screaming at her staff and came out behind the counter with a pink receipt and making a scene outside in the floor, she started screaming at the waiter, we believed he messed up a bill, that waited the table next to us. The whole time this was happening around the counter where we had to be to pay. It was so awkward as they screamed at each other with us literally stuck in the middle. After the spectacle, our waiter, who was helping us split the bill, started bickering back and forth with her while splitting our bill... it was very uncomfortable and really awkward to experience such a hostile environment. The pregnant woman even stomped after the other waiter, who she was arguing with, to follow him outside to scream at him more, almost knocking us out of her path of destruction; we had to all quickly move out the way every time she circled back. had high expectations for this place, seeing the menu me and my wife being Chinese wanted some Asian cuisine over the Greek food on the island but was left highly disappointed. ordered the chicken curry rolls and it was just pastry and some lettuce inside and out of the two rolls had one spec of chicken and the rolls were tasteless. we told the waiter this and he just strugged his shoulders picked up the plates and walked away. thought that was so rude. ordered vegetable tofu and the tofu was really thin and chewy and the sauce was very watered down with no flavour. ordered the caramelised chicken too and expected much more from the dish, just some blanched brocoli on the plate and fried chicken in batter and some sauce sprinkled in sesame seeds, the dish lacked flavour and presentation was awful. being Chinese they should know a pot of tea once empty we lift the lid off the pot as it requires refilling but no one came over or asked us whether we wanted more drinks. no initiative from the waiters what so ever and didn't even listen when we complained about the food. typically being Chinese I root for other Chinese restaurants and takeaways to do well and try not to give bad reviews. but to the owner of the restaurant, I have worked in the Chinese food trade for a few decades and know what I am talking about, feel free to message me and I can recommend you some good Chinese restaurants in the UK. perhaps we chose some bad dishes or my standards are alot higher, but I would recommend you retry the dishes and compare against other restaurants perhaps abroad. KIWI is a nice spot to take a break from all the sea food and other Greek delicious food you will find in Kamari beach. The staff is super attentive and helpful and the restaurant has a great outdoor area.

However, when it comes to the food I must be honest and let you all know that the food is just ok.

Let me try to break it out to you.

For our appetizers we ordered the Chicken soup The corn soup The spring rolls The teriyaki chicken wings

Out of all those the chicken wings came out first and they were impeccable. Their flavor was so intense and deep that every bite taste just like the fist one. One thing that was a litbit misleading was the fact that they were all drumsticks wings which my wife love, however, if you are going to call something chicken wings, I expect to see some wings in there. Not a big deal though. And thats were the full flavors kinda stopped.

The soups were lacking in flavor, all the ingredients were there but the broth it was missing its soul.

For the main course we order the sweet and sour chicken and the Korean BBQ. And I must say for the price the portion are spot on, but again the flavor was nowhere to be found. The sweet and sour chicken tasted just like a fried nugget with a very faint sauce on it and the korean bbq didnt have that vinegar/sour/umami taste you come to expect from korean bbq. (By the way I lived in South Korea for almost 3 years so I know what korean bbq is supposed to taste like)
