we returned to Hippocampus Hotel 2 years later (mid August 2020) for 5 days. This was the last stop on a 3 week holiday and no other place has been as vigilant regarding covid 19 regulations and cleanliness. This time we requested 2 quiet rooms at the back of the hotel next to one another as our daughter had a friend with her. It was the perfect opportunity to offer teenagers more independence. We had a wonderful time, all the information below is still current.
Some practical information: the bus fare is 1.60 euros so if you need to change at Fira for Oia you will need two tickets. Taxis are usually 20-30 euros. If you are more than 3 people make sure you say that when booking a taxi as you will need a larger vehicle. Due to covid-19 you are not allowed to sit next to the driver. Also masks are compulsory in buses and taxis, if you don't comply you are risking a 150 euros fine per person. Our flight was on the 25th of July but it was delayed. We arrived very late, around 01:00 in the morning. Alexandros from the hotel had arranged a pick up for us and Kyria Toula was up, waiting at the gate. Our room was spotless clean, cold water waiting for us ( Santorini tap water isn’t drinkable). The beds were very comfy, the aircon on. In the morning, we got up to sample the delicious breakfast and then we dived straight into the pool. I am Greek and usually the idea of swimming in a pool when the sea in 50m away from the hotel is unthinkable. Still the pool at Hipocampus was so nice that we spend quite a bit of time there. The location of the hotel is excellent. Next to the beach, opposite a great pit stop place for gyros and salad ( ask for yogurt panacota too). Our favourite restaurant was Alismani, 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The bus stop that takes you to Fira and Oia is practically behind the hotel and the local transport cheap and reliable. We stayed for three nights but we could have spend a week easily if it wasn’t fully booked. We were travelling with our 13 year old daughter and it was perfect to keep her busy and very safe. We are gay and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We would...
Read moreIt took me a over 2 weeks of searching to select an hotel in Santorini, I wanted something nice but not crazy expensive, I'm really glad I found this hotel. We stayed here for 6 nights. When we arrived at the hotel, the person at front desk was very helpful, he gave us a map of the island, circled some of the best places to go to including the best spot for the sunset. He also told us about the cruises they could schedule for us, i'm sure you can find it cheaper online but honestly having them do everything for us including arranging the pick up, was totally worth it, we did the volcano/ hot springs/Thirassia island and it was great. The rooms were really big with a balcony, the bed for someone that often stays in hotels, I don't remember the last time I had such a nice bed, the location was amazing, 1 minute walk to the beach, there was a bunch of restaurant on near the beach, amazing Italian restaurant just up the street, pharmacy, 2 mini markets in front of the hotel and great bars. Their breakfast was great too, there was alway, fresh bread, croissants, fruit, pastries, juice, coffee, eggs, bacon/sausage. There was plenty of parking, the room was cleaned everyday and we always had clean towels. I spent one hour in the afternoon laying by the pool and was very relaxing, the lounge chairs were comfortable to enjoy the sun Definitely...
Read moreWe (me, wife and 7yo daughter) stayed in Hippocampus hotel for 7 nights (from 30.06 till 07.07) - this hotel was great: breakfast (buffet) - was very good (starting with hard boiled eggs/scrumble eggs/greek yogurt/flakes/ham/cheese/sausage and finishing with delicious coffee/croissant/watermellon) - everything was tasty. was very clean - each day suits were cleaned. Also hotel territory was very clean. strong wifi and pretty good speed - was enought to stream cartoons for a kid before a sleep in HD quality. pool - clean and quite big with different depth (kid part is around 80cm and adult part is like 170cm deep) location - in the middle of Kamari with all his restaurants and bars, 100 meters from Kamari beach. stuff - always ready to help with any request/problem. As we were first time on the island Mam on reception told us everything we need to know about it (what parts of the island to visit, how and when). We are very happy that we chosen Hippocampus for our vacation and will be happy to return there again! Thank you,...
