Cafe No Se — Restaurant in Sacatepéquez

Well I was told to check this place out last year while I was visiting Antigua, Guatemala. Even though I was really busy at Spanish school in the day and always had lots of homework. I eventually made time to go here. One evening after dinner I popped in to check this almost literal hole in the out. It had what I would call a very low lit lounge with a bit of punky rock vibe. As I was alone I found it a little intimidating which is not a bad thing to recognize as anywhere can be dangerous if the wrong people are there. Thankfully I found an empty seat at the bar and a cheery bartender. Who was more than happy to help me pick from one of the beers on tap. I was a little hungry and so I decided to try some of the eats here. I ordered their fries. They were delicious and just made me feel like I was back at home. The server was pleasant and so I finished my beer and fries and hit the road before it got dark. I was in Antigua for the month so I tried this place twice more. The second time I went there again cheery bartender nice server. Great people sitting at the bar lots of great conversation in Spanish. Yay. I never realized I was learning so much. Closer to the end of my trip and on a weekend I decided to try this place one more time. That night I left angry the great people I had met before were no where to be seen and instead in their place stood two snotty girls. The place was dead but I thought I would stay anyways, after all it was the weekend and I would be returning home soon. Well I thought I would make the best of it and see where they were from. They lived at the hostel across the street but they obviously spoke English from somewhere on the West coast of North America. Well I thought I was making headway with them as they now seemed to be trying to be nice. However something seemed wrong. My spider senses flared and I decided to see. So I politely asked if they could watch my drink. They were all too happy I stepped out the door to have a smoke and watched in shock as my drink was loaded with some foreign substance. Well I am sure glad I have such strong senses. I came back in and sat back at the bar. They were so eager to get me back to my drink. I made an excuse like oh do you have any gin. This beer just is not sitting with my plate. Immediately they were upset. I ignored their reaction but seeing as it was still a perfectly good beer... as far as I was supposed to know. I offered it to their friend sitting next to me at the bar. Which he gladly accepted however as I paid my bill and left I noticed that drink I just gave him was gone of the bar. So two nights were an absolute delight and one was well you decide. Today my friend was bitten by a dog while we were there, and the staff did not respond at all. The situation was not a random accident but a result of two dogs being encouraged to tease each other by their owners. Both dogs were visibly distressed due to the dark and loud atmosphere of the bar.

The dog owner could not confirm whether the dog was vaccinated (this dog was a rescued street dog), which is a serious health risk.

Despite the bite and the obvious danger it posed, both the dog and the owner were allowed to remain in the bar, with no intervention or concern from the staff!!!!

This complete lack of support is unacceptable, I would caution anyone with concerns about safety to avoid this place.

The bar itself is unique, social, and welcoming. Overall I enjoyed my time here with my friends. I typically never leave reviews…but I feel that management should be aware of the tall, tatted, long haired brunette who was working at the first bar as you walk in to the right last night march 7th. The bartender was incredibly rude and disrespectful. When I tried to order, she rolled her eyes and sighed as if I was inconveniencing her. For some reason I guess she didn’t like us?? But she acted this way with everyone. We ended up having to order from the other bars in the building to avoid her. Her overall energy and attitude was unwelcoming, and I won't be returning....
