For those who don’t have time to read the full review, in summary, if I could give it 0 stars I would. I’ve never walked out of a restaurant and I hope I never have to again.
I’m honestly not quite sure whether I should start with the incompetency of staff, the lack of availability of anything on the menu or the overpriced trash that was eventually served up.
It was my partners birthday so we were looking forward to a nice meal out, I’d chosen this restaurant as it looked nice, there were plenty of menu choices (including meat options for my partner and veggie ones for me) and it seemed like more of a special occasion / treat restaurant given the prices.
After being seated we had 3-4 members of staff fussing around our table but half of them were talking to each other whilst the other half tried to take a drink order. We ordered a beer while we looked at the rest of the menu only to be told 5 minutes later that they didn’t have that particular one so we ordered a different one, again only to be told that they didn’t have that one either. It’s here that the frustrations began. Also each time we interacted with a server there seemed to be several of them around half taking our order and half having a conversation which was also very frustrating when you’re ordering.
Eventually we ordered our food, the guy who took our order was clearly new and being trained but whoever was training him was only half doing it. He didn’t have a clue what was on the menu and seemed confused by our orders (Brie starter, pork and potatoes and a veggie pizza with added olives - perhaps familiarise staff with the menu before letting them loose on guests.
10 minutes after ordering a different waitress came over to say that pf the 5 main courses on the menu they only had 2 of them (the most expensive ones suspiciously), so my partner reordered a different option - the premium steak and pesto pasta. A few minutes later she came back to check what pizza I wanted and eeemed to think I wanted the chicken pizza - not sure how that happened when I ordered a vegetarian and there were several of them around our table when the order was taken.
We waited for our starter for 30 minutes, except no starter came. Instead our main courses arrived, at this point our patience was very thin and we explained we had ordered a starter. with no apology we were asked if we still wanted it which at this point we said no and cancelled it, too fed up to wait for that. We turned to our food, my pizza (which the waiter had put at the opposite side of the table?) looked like a cheap frozen pizza with some extra toppings chucked on to disguise it. But my partners meal was the kicker, two separate plates, one with a slab of cheap looking over cooked meat (not the premium rare beef he ordered), and a separate plate with some plain pasta and pesto slapped on. Why separate plates? Why no salad or presentation effort made?
Then we realised we hadn’t even been given any cutlery to eat the awful looking food we’d gone to such an effort to get. After asking and waiting for 5 minutes (while our food went cold) we finally got some cutlery and unwrapped it from the napkin to find it was just a knife. No fork. No way to eat the now cold, rubbish food slapped on the table by incompetent, rude, unapologetic staff. It was the straw that broke the camels back and we snapped told the staff it was awful and walked out leaving the food on the table. It was supposed to be a lovely birthday celebration and instead it was ruined. I only wish we’d taken photos of the food that came out before we left to add to this review.
An absolute shambles. If you got food poisoning here, as so many reviews say they did, I’m only shocked you even managed to order, receive and...
Read moreMy recent visit to Patio de la Primera turned a late-night coffee and dessert stop into a memorable experience, leaving me eager to return for a full-fledged dining adventure. Despite our tardy arrival, the service we received was nothing short of exceptional.
Entering the quaint establishment just before closing time, we were greeted warmly by the staff, who graciously accommodated us with a smile. Although we had missed the live music performance, the ambiance still resonated with a soothing charm that set the perfect backdrop for our impromptu coffee and dessert escapade.
Opting for cappuccinos and teas, we were delighted by the expertly crafted beverages that arrived promptly. The barista's skill was evident in every sip, making for a delightful caffeine fix. Accompanying our drinks were two culinary masterpieces: the corn pudding bread and the berry tart.
The corn pudding bread was a revelation, with its perfect balance of sweetness and a comforting texture that left a lasting impression. The berry tart, adorned with vibrant, fresh berries, was a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate with each bite.
As the clock ticked, and we relished the last moments of our evening, the attentive service continued to shine. The staff's dedication to making our short visit enjoyable was evident, creating an atmosphere that felt like an extension of genuine hospitality.
Although our time was limited, the glimpse we got of the menu left us yearning for more. The tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen and the raving reviews we've heard only heightened our curiosity, making a return visit inevitable.
In conclusion, Patio de la Primera may have started as a pitstop for a late-night caffeine fix and dessert, but it left a lasting impression that goes beyond the immediate indulgence. The outstanding service, coupled with the exquisite offerings, has made me eager to return and explore the full spectrum of flavors that this establishment has to offer. If our brief encounter is any indication, This is undoubtedly a hidden gem, and I can't wait to return for a more extensive...
Read moreBad service, especially for tourists. Many things went wrong with the service personnel, so let me explain:
I called early morning to make a reservation, and they asked me to pay 100 quetzales per person in advance (later to be consumed). I agreed to those terms, but they had absolutely no method for an international to make the payment. The only method they had was transfer or direct deposit to a local Guatemalan bank account.
I was near by so I decided to go to the restaurant around 3pm to make the deposit myself at the restaurant, they told me the accountant was not there so they could not take my money, but no worries they would hold my reservation.
At 8pm when we arrived at the restaurant the personnel had no clue about the reservation and no table was ready for my 15 person party.
They made some last-minute adjustments to sit all 15 in a 10 person table inside a room where the ambiance could not be appreciated.
Apparently our party was of little importance for the restaurant because minutes later another party made a request to be seated in a closed up room with no ambience, no music no nothing and with out asking my party if it was ok, they decided to bring in this other 8 person party into the room and the personel started closing all the windows and doors in order to accommodate them with absolutely no concern for us.
There was nice music and a nice garden, but with the actions the personnel took, they made it hard for our party to enjoy the true ambiance of the place.
On a positive note the food was good and the kitchen delivered the food in good time, also the band which we could only hear through the crack of the door was playing nice music. As a family, we made the best of it and...
