I wish i could do 3.75 stars. This is coming from a New Yorker. The wine was good, the food was good, but I simply do not understand the hype. The rooftop was very very small, only 4-5 tables fit, and the ruins were nothing spectacular from this angle (google reviews wont let me upload a video but imagine like 100 sq feet). The wait staff was nice but also one of them tried to pretend I couldn’t sit outside at first because it was full meanwhile there were 4 free tables. 10 minutes later, my waiter said I could move outside. The steak with the gorgonzola and mushrooms was good, but I simply do not understand why the steak needed to be literally drowned in sauce. It just seemed excessive. The wine was very good though. The place isnt bad but there were people saying this was the best rooftop and I do...
Read moreThis place is not as they present themselves. This is a common food joint. That's normally a great thing. Really, like this is a five star review for a restaurant that makes food and sells it at average prices.
Tartine, however, presents itself with the "Best Terrace in Town" and some of the high class dining options you'd love to see in a fine dining environment. The wine list is insanely overpriced for the wines they're selling (no joke, look up some of the wines they're selling for hundreds of quetzales. You're getting CHEAP wine). Someone at my table ordered a panini and it looked exactly the same as a street meat panini. My personal favorite, but not when a restaurant is promising a...
Read moreThis is an amazing French restaurant - Chef/owner Jean François does great work! The tiny terrace overlooks the ruined cathedral, and it's magical at night. I had the steak with a porcini mushroom, gorgonzola, and walnut sauce - perfectly cooked and incredibly rich - absolutely delicious! The accompanying fries were crispy and delicious, and the wine list is solid. For dessert, the seasonal fruit mousse was light and wonderfully flavored - passionfruit, my favorite! Efraín was a friendly server, and his wine recommendation was spot on. If you are ever in Antigua, do yourself a favor and eat a meal...
