1.st visit: Went to Blue Tomato, after having no luck with nearby restaurants. And WOW, the french onion soup was Amazing! Saved our night as the Bar was open late. We also had dessert after the soup, we choce the Crepe's and they came a little different than on the menu, but WOW they were soo good with the strawberry jam? Ontop! Much better than the chocolate!!
Second Visit: Shared a goulash soup as starter, they came with an extra bowl and a ladle so we could transfer the soup how we wished. The soup was one of the best I had in Budapest, just a little salty😅
After enjoying the soup, my partner orderd the pig knuckle, which she will review herself. I had the chassis hamburger with potatoes as an extra. They did not fail on the burger. It was a perfect balance between juicy, soft and crisp. The potatoes came cold. A little bummed out about that. They were a little stale and seemd to be made earlier than My order.
For dessert we had the crepe (pancake with icecream) again, but this time they came a little different. With chocolate sauce, and a little less hot. They were tasty and we finished all of the food (other than the potatoes)
Deffinently recommend if youre wanting a goulash or something tasty!
The cocktails and drinks: We orderd Kraken Rum with cola on the sides, came as expected. They served the rum without ice, which is a big +👍🏻
For drinks we had the Cosmopolitian (small) and a Sex on the Beach (big glass). They were strong and tasty! The sex on the Beach is the one I would...
Read moreThis was an unforgettable experience. I've eaten in hundreds of restaurants, but this was exceptional. I beg your indulgence as I explain.
Picture this: You walk into a bar, you do not speak the native tongue. You are greeted by a no nonsense gentleman who shows your group of four to a table near the bar. As you look around you see that the place is clean and well lit and there is a pleasant hum of conversation all around. You look at the bilingual (thank the dear Lord) menu and order food and drinks from a lovely waitress who speaks flawless English.
The food arrives. On your plate sits an enormous duck breast resting on a bed of fried potato wedges with a ramekin of sauteed mushrooms in cream sauce on the side. You take a bite. Instantly you are transported to the place where food meets happiness. The duck is savory and perfectly prepared it's juices having added their sublime essence to the potatoes below. The mushrooms are flavorful but subtle.
Before you drift off into food Nirvana, you check on your wife who ordered the rump steak and mashed potatoes with crispy fried onions. She doesn't want to talk to you as she is having an emotional moment with her plate.
You finish your meal sadly acknowledging that this is a once in a lifetime experience. You know that as you fly back across the Atlantic you will fondly remember the meal at The...
Read moreThe Blue Tomato is a seemingly hip and trendy Restaurant/Bar where I was looking forward to have dinner at. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment! The food was okay, nothing special, but good. The portions are huge. The waiter who tended us was quite nice and helpful, but there was another female, blond and tall waitress who was arrogant, unfriendly, even aggressive towards us. She looked at us in a really disgusted and hateful way ( maybe because my son in law is black?). She yelled at us when we took the wrong turn to go to the toilet, which is an absolute no go. I will never ever set foot into that place again. It may be okay if you are pure white and hopefully even hungarian, but i don't recommend it if you are a person of colour or asian or jewish. You will experience racistband openly hostile treatment. Budapest has a lot of better Restaurants and bars to offer, where you will be treated in the normally very welcomming and warm hungarian way.I know what I am talking about, as I am of hungarian origin and grew up with said hospitality. The athmosphere and treatment in the Blue Tomato made me feel ashamed of my fellow...
