Went here for dinner for the first time with some friends on Dec. 28. I’m partial to Indian food and the food here was just great. I presume they have an Indian chef because you can tell when the food is genuine.
For an appetizer I had the papadum which was nice and crunchy. Then for dinner I had the Punjabi Taster for two. I figured if I couldn’t finish it, I could take the rest home but I had no problem eating it all right there. This may be the only drawback… if you’re a big person, or have a big appetite, you may find the entrees a bit small, but just make sure to order some appetizers or extra naan or rice and you should be okay.
The taster for two included 3 different flavours of tandoori chicken breast cubes, chicken in tikka sauce, basmati rice and garlic naan. Everything was delicious. You can order the dish hot and spicy, mild or in between. I ordered hot and spicy but for me it wasn’t that hot, but then I have a high tolerance for spicy food.
The taster for two, with an appetizer (papadum) and one non-alcoholic beer was HUF 10,000 (USD 29). My friend who ordered one appetizer, one entree and a beer paid about HUF 8,000 (USD 23) and one friend ordered just a single entree and a beer paid about HUF 6,000 (USD 17). So it is not what some might consider cheap, but very reasonable for the quality of the food. If you want a decent restaurant in Budapest, you are not going to get away with much less than this anyway, so I considered it good value.
Wait staff was helpful and friendly. I also liked that you can just get up and pay at the cashier when you finish. Don’t have to wait around for the waiter to bring the bill or your change. I will definitely come here again. They have a very big menu with lots of selection so I am looking forward to trying some of the other Indian...
Read moreWe recently visited this place and ordered food along with plain lassi. However, without confirming our order, the server Mr. Rajesh brought mango lassi, assuming that’s what we wanted—just because others were ordering it. When we politely mentioned that we had actually ordered plain lassi, his reaction was unexpectedly aggressive. He raised his voice, became defensive, and started misbehaving in front of other customers, making the whole situation extremely uncomfortable.
This kind of rude and unprofessional behavior was completely uncalled for, especially in a hospitality setting where politeness and respect should be a given. What’s more disappointing is that the food was genuinely good, and the other staff members seemed courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, Mr. Rajesh's behavior left such a bad impression that it overshadowed everything else.
We’ve been traveling across Europe and have consistently experienced warm, respectful service everywhere—this was the only place where we felt disrespected. I’m giving 1 star not because of the food or the restaurant as a whole, but entirely because of this negative experience with Mr. Rajesh.
I understand one review might not change much, but I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. Customer service matters just as much...
Read moreGreat place for delicious food from the Punjab region , now divided between India and Pakistan, where tandoori cooking began. Punjabi cuisine is known for its rich, buttery flavours (creamy sauces) along with the extensive vegetarian and meat dishes.
For lunch we had the Baingan bharta, a classic eggplant dish similar to Middle Eastern baba ghanoush, where the eggplant is first roasted and gives the dish a smokey flavor. We also tried the Murgh Makhani-Chef's Special, pieces of tandoori cooked chicken in a cashew tomato cream sauce. And we also had the Daal Makhani, mixed lentils and kidney beans cooked in spices with creamy sauce. An onion bhaji, ome basmati rice and naan completed the food choices. A large Pilsner Urquell and a mango lassi were our beverage choices. The bill came to 7690 HUF
Everything was amazingly well prepared and tasty, though fairly mild on the heat scale, which is pretty common for northern Indian/Pakistani cuisine. We really had nothing negative to say.
Lunch is more relaxed there than dinner, which is more crowded. The dining room only seats about 25-30 people. Service was very good and credit cards ARE accepted (contrary to others' comments here).
We will certainly visit again and try some more of the many other interesting dishes...
