Bortodoor City — Restaurant in Budapest

We booked a spontaneous wine tasting at Bortodoor and wow, what a ride! Suze welcomed us with the best energy from the first second, and we instantly clicked. She’s an amazing storyteller who mixes wine facts, local stories, and her own experiences in the most entertaining way.

We had several great wines, a tasty cheese board with veggie dips and sausages, and just the coziest vibe. The cheeses teamed up excellent with the wines and Suze helped pairing them with us to get the best experience. The whole team was super friendly, chatting with locals and making everyone feel at home. It felt like we got a good insight into an authentic Budapest neighbourhood. We were there a little off season (mid-september) so it wasn't too busy. Great spot for a less touristy wine tasting for sure where creating a good experience seems to be their main focus.

We highly recommend booking a tasting with Suze. She's full speed on stories, laughs, and good wine. We left both tipsy and enlightened about Hungarian wines. 10/10 would come back!!! Actually, we did talk about moving to Budapest after this visit, so maybe be a little careful about going if you're not ready to fall madly in love...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bortodoor City completely exceeded my expectations. We chose the six-wine tasting along with a charcuterie board, and everything was exceptional, each wine was carefully selected and beautifully explained, and the board was perfectly prepared with high-quality cheeses and cured meats. But what truly made this experience unforgettable was the service.

I’ve been living in Budapest for over two years, and I can confidently say this was the best customer service I’ve ever had here. The staff were incredibly attentive, genuinely kind, and deeply passionate about what they do. They took the time to explain each wine with patience, helped us understand the differences, and guided us based on our personal taste. You could feel that they cared, not just about serving, but about creating a memorable experience.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Bortodoor both times that we were here. The first time, we were in for a tasting after having met Suze at another event, and it did not disappoint. We were lucky enough to get ShMike to lead us on our journey. I am not really (or was not really) a "wine guy" before, but after this tasting, he made a wine guy out of me. The tastings were on-point and the pairing snacks were tasty. The tempo was laid-back and ShMike took all of the snobbery out of the experience and really made wine seem so accessible even to us lay-people. His vast knowledge of wine, particularly Hungarian wine, was extensive. We even returned a few days later to hang with ShMike, Jack, and Sally, and to purchase a number of wines to bring back with us with guidance from Suze and ShMike. We HIGHLY recommend stopping by this gem of a bar/store even if you don't do the tasting, but if you have the time, do it!
