Hoff House — Restaurant in Budapest

I am an American who spent 4 months abroad for school and when I first got to Budapest, there was an overwhelming sense of isolation since I didn’t know the language or very many people. I stumbled into hoff house by accident about a month into my travels and it is not an exaggeration to say that I never left. As I journey back to America I can confidently say that the only thing I will miss about Budapest is Hoff House. Between the amazing food, drinks and staff, it’s hard to articulate just how much this place has impacted me. The resident canine Carla is incredibly sweet and helped me combat how much I was missing my own puppies back home. The bartenders Sally and Katie are not only amazing at making sex on the beaches (my favorite drink (lol)) but quickly made me feel at home in a strange environment and are some of the most amazing people that I have ever met. As everyone says, it is not a hoff house, it’s a hoff home, and I know that whether I come back to Budapest in a month or a year, hoff house will be the place that I feel the most welcome in the entire world. Went looking for a bar to watch the Formula 1 race in Miami. Despite being listed as open, most other places I found akin to a sports pub were closed. Found this place and was immediately welcomed and told that there was a watch party for the race on their second floor. On the ground floor, there was an international trivia game happening with many people. On the bottom floor (basement), presumably some Star Wars event was happening because when I was ordering, someone scantily dressed with a lightsaber came up to me at the bar to show off their lightsaber skills, which was unexpected but very entertaining.

I didn't catch my Aussie bartender's name (pictured), but he was keen to tell me about Hungarian drinking culture and have a nice chat. A rather nice chap.

Definitely recommend this place. Solid drink selection, has a kitchen available, and had a wonderful time! Will definitely be back if/when I return...

I ordered a set of BBQ coated wings from Hoff House via a delivery app. They state that it’s the best wings in Budapest, I was super hungry so I was looking forward to receiving them. Unfortunately the wings were not tender at all, in fact they were quite firm. Not the meat fall off the bone type that I like. I tried my luck with multiple pieces, but they were all the same. Unfortunately I did not end up eating any wings. The fries and sauces were delicious, so that was the only plus (2 stars for that). If you want good wings in Budapest, try BPBarBQ (recommend doing that to Hoff House staff as well for the sake of benchmarking). Their wings are really tender.
