Visited this place yesterday. Pizza was delicious but Carbonara is not worth trying. Too much sauce, drowning in it. No my 3 little pieces of bacon and no parmigiano. We asked for Prosecco and waitress said they don’t have Prosecco - how come people after us were getting aperol spritz? There is Prosecco in aperol spritz. The same thing with beer - we got one glass of sour beer as the waitress said they run out of beer. The biggest issue was the waitress ! We waited a long time until she even came to ask for our order, got still water instead of sparkling, broken wine glass. After finishing our meal we waited more than 30 mins for her to come and ask us if we even want something else ( dessert?? Drinks?? ). As she wasn’t coming I went inside and asked for bill myself. 40 mins after finishing our meals and dishes and glasses were still on the table. She didn’t come to our table since the moment she brought our meals. My uncle came later and sat by the next table - for 15 mins no one came to ask for his order, chief brought the menu but the waitress noting - again, I went inside to order for them as they don’t speak English or Hungarian. They waited for pizza and pasta for approximately 35 mins - after while we saw chief going out for cigarette, we thought he finished our pizza and she will bring it.. she didn’t bring it! Chief finished his cigarette and brought it - pizza was not warm at all. He definitely finished it before cigarette and waitress just didn’t bring it while it was still warm. I don’t want to forget the fact that when we came to the restaurant there were 3 tables outside - 11 people - everyone already had their orders so waitress definitely was not busy. Overall, delicious pizza, great bolognese, not really good carbonara and terrible service! Great service makes 90% of the success and atmosphere and that...
Read moreWe three chose to eat here after visiting the nearby Ruins Bar. We sat outside at a pavement table. Order taken quickly with drinks arriving promptly. My wife’s rose wine tasted corked but the owner manager just passed it off as typical of Hungarian wine. He did change it for white which was better. We ordered pizza and two pasta dishes along with a side of pizza bread. My wife’s pasta, my pizza and the pizza bread arrived together. My pizza was missing the extra Gorgonzola topping that I ordered but I let that go. After 10 minutes, it was apparent that my daughter’s pasta wasn’t coming so I spoke to the owner/manager who said he’d put it right. I had to chase again after my wife and I had finished. My daughter ended up eating alone and found her pasta somewhat tasteless. There was no apology for the poor service which aggrieved me and the full service charge was applied to the bill. Next to the restaurant is the gated entrance to a residential area. While we were sat, cars kept pulling up and stopping while the gates opened or the delivery drivers dropped goods so if you sit at a pavement table, make sure its not where we sat unless you like inhaling fumes/listening to engines idling. It certainly spoilt the atmosphere too. Overall, a disappointing experience that wasn’t value for money unfortunately. With so much choice in Budapest, there are better options imho. Service would have been one star had the wine not...
Read moreUnsure why there are a bunch of very negative reviews (e.g. 'the pizza is cardboard, the pasta is the blandest ever') - we decided to try out this place, and we were very happy.
The pizza is thin, sure, but you're not expecting a Chicago-style pizza in an Italian place, right? I found the pizza to be deliciously full of flavour, including the crust around the edges, with a very good selection of ingredients that complement each other, each adding their own flavour, none overshadowing or clashing with another. My girlfriend similarly enjoyed her pasta carbonara. The dessert - tiramisu - was also delicious, both the traditional one and the pistachio one.
The place was empty when we arrived - with a large group of tourists standing in front of it; apparently this street is a meet-up spot for guided tours - but as we were there, more people came in.
The service is friendly, but also a bit 'USAn', in that they interrupt you to take away papers and plates, even if your partner is still eating. As a European, I'm more used to (and prefer) leaving everything on the table until the next course. But this waiter was Hungarian as far as I could tell, so who knows.
Note that the waiter asked me to place a five-star review though - minus one star for this request, you...
