Hummusbar might just be one of my favorite casual food concepts ever. As the name of this chain restaurant implies, the “pride and joy” is the hummus bowl, which came with their warm and creamy freshly-made hummus with various toppings. The “Complete” hummus bowl came with golden chickpeas, whole mushrooms, and 6 tiny falafel balls, along with tehina, olive oil, parsley, cumin, paprika, and a small round of warm, fluffy pita bread on the side. I also got a side of their harissa, which added a nice spicy kick, but my favorite part was simply the crispy, soft falafel dipped into the hummus along with some chewy pita. I also tried the freshly grilled chicken breast entree, which came with three salads: Arabic (chopped cucumbers/tomatoes), sour cabbage, and Moroccan carrots, all of which were flavorful and delicious. Everything here made for an amazing meal that came at a great value in a clean, modern setting and with friendly service too.

Overall: ★★★★☆ A simple, nice set up selling popular Middle Eastern inspired food. Set in the tourist area of downtown Budapest there’s enough options on the menu to feed most palates. You’ll feel fed yet light after eating here and it’s very good value. Don’t expect a great atmosphere but you don’t go for that rather to eat and go. Food: Falafel, Hummus & Pita place What I liked: • Nice clean set up and open kitchen • Friendly welcome and service • Fresh, healthy looking menu • Good price point • Nice falafel • Home made chips (not everyone’s style but I like them a lot) • Nice presentation What I didn’t like: • Cold, sterile dining area devoid of any atmosphere Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? YES Price Point: $

I enjoy eating at the chain in general as there's a lot of tasty Vegan option. That said, this was probably their most understaffed place I've been to. Just 1 cook and 1 waiter for 40-50seat place, 90%packed at Sunday noon.. so we had to wait a lot until we could get our order, but also to get our food. Also, we were 4ppl, ordered together at one table but were served in different rounds.. waited 10-15minutes between the first and the last dishes served.. so everything was cold if u wanted to wait for everyone's plate to arrive. Not everything on the menu was available. Servings were smaller than usual (ex. falafels were at best 2/3 of regular size). I honestly don't blame the staff rather the manager/chain for inadequate planning.

This was the worst restaurant experience of our trip.

Three of us ordered hummus, shakshuka, and kebab. Only one dish was served, and we waited over 30 minutes for the other two. When we asked, the server who took our order said, “You – kebab? You – shakshuka? Okay,” and waved us away with no apology at all. It felt very dismissive and rude. Eventually, only my kebab came—and it was completely burnt and nearly inedible.

The last dish never arrived. After waiting for over an hour, we asked for a refund, but the same server falsely claimed they had already given us all the food and accused us of lying. Our table clearly had only two plates. They refused to show us CCTV footage, said the manager couldn’t be reached, and offered no solution.

When we asked for the police, they refused and instead called building security, who also accused us without checking anything. The server kept mocking us and never once apologized.

※ For context: the chef was not involved in this behavior. He didn't speak English and stayed quietly aside the whole time without intervening.

Tourists at the table next to us also complained about missing food, and they too left without getting a refund. Awful service, burnt food, disrespectful staff. This experience ruined part of our trip. Absolutely not...

It’s honestly hard to believe this is a franchise. Just one staff member’s disrespectful, mocking attitude completely ruined the entire brand image for me. The food took an unreasonably long time to come out, and the response to the delay was poorly handled. But what angered me the most wasn't the delay itself — it was the complete lack of any apology. Not even a single word of “sorry.” That’s what made the experience truly infuriating The female staff member who served me spoke in a condescending, sneering tone, especially toward Asian customers. It felt discriminatory, not just rude. And the fact that someone like that is representing your business on the front line? Absolutely shocking. There is clearly no proper staff training, no understanding of basic respect or professionalism. It’s unbelievable that you operate under a franchise name while treating customers like this. You are damaging your own brand more than you seem to realize. The worst part is that this dinner will stay in my memory — not because of the food, but because of the people. This was my last dinner in Budapest, and it left me with the worst possible impression. I will never return, and I strongly discourage anyone else...

Food was great but service was terrible. We we here a month ago, and got a seemingly new waiter, who I honestly hope is not working there anymore. After choosing our orders, we were told they are out of eggplants. Then we asked for more time, and after choosing a different dish, we were told they are also out of mushrooms. The third time they ALSO didn't have the thing we asked for. Then I asked the waiter to list the things they actually DO have, as we were pingponging for already 15 minutes like this. It turns out they didn't have chickpeas at the moment, which is already surprising given the main dishes of this chain are made out of chickpeas. But the more annoying thing was not letting us know about the things they are out of the first time we tried to order. When the food arrived, one main dish and several small things were also missing, had to reorder them. Meanwhile the waiter seemed having a great time joking with the rest...
