It’s hard to decide what was better, the customer service or the food.
On our first night in Budapest we decided to that we should make our first dinner Hungarian and looking through recommendations Konyha came up. We had walked by earlier in the day and were a little worried that it might be touristy, but the reviews were solid.
We were sat immediately and given menus to look over. Although most things are self explanatory, we had questions and Sophie/Sofi (sorry I didn’t get the spelling!) was patient and informative and kind. She spent so much time with us giving her opinions and describing the dishes we asked about.
The goulash was a fan favourite. And not just because of the wonderful sourdough bread that came with it, though it was a star itself.
Between us we had the Sausages, fried chicken and potato salad, Hungarian stew with mini potato langos, a ribeye, and a filet. Four out of Five of us swapped parts of our meals, but the one who ordered the sausages let us know that they were his and his alone and basically inhaled them.
The portions are plentiful and filling and beautifully presented. So much so that as pretty as it was, most of us were left with no room for dessert. Except Mr Sausages who decided that floating islands were needed to complete his night.
Luckily Sophie brought out five spoons because 2 others decided that they too needed to give the dessert a try.
All in all it was a perfect first dinner for our first night here. And Sophie was an absolute star! When she found out I was thinking about running to the Airbnb for a cardigan, she offered to get me a blanket instead. Just the gesture warmed me up enough.
We definitely want to return before we leave!
PS: almost forgot to add that the in house lemonades are DELICIOUS and...
Read moreOur party had 4 members for a Saturday dinner and we decided to be tourists in our own city for a change and go for a restaurant in a central location. This turned out to be the best decision we could make. Our waitress Jázmin deserves all the credit, we are the kind of people with a lot of questions being interested in the presentation of the dishes but she answered all we had to ask. She was attentive and all of her recommendations were spot on, even with the wine pairing. For starter we had the duck liver, very well prepared with a rhubarb sauce and homemade milk bread, a delight for an entree with the pálinka we ordered. For mains we tried 4 different types just to give a chance to the chef to show off. All dishes were a treat, we had the chicken paprikash, the liver being cooked with it was a pleasent surprise, we tried the stuffed cabbage and the homemade grilled sausages. Both of them were quite a mouthful, but again, very well presented and delicious. The sausages even had a plate like the paper tray you could have ordered it back in the days in a butcher's shop. Very down to details. We also tried the seasonal vegetable stew, which was a pumpkin stew this time, but again, didn't even need a seasoning afterwards, they just got the taste right. We only had the floating island as a dessert, it exceeded my expectations yet it is rare to have a decent one nowadays when eating out. The restaurant was well under control, all the tables seemed happy, thanks to Sándor's leadership style, all members of the staff was on the spot, so as a manager he even had a chance to talk to us about the background story of the restaurant. We will surely visit again, thank you for your...

Our recent visit to KONYHA was truly a highlight of our trip to Budapest. From start to finish, everything about this restaurant was exceptional, making it a place we'll undoubtedly return to before we leave.
First and foremost, the food was simply divine. I can confidently say that the goulash I had here was the best I've ever tasted – rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The schnitzel was equally impressive, perfectly cooked and utterly delicious. In fact, every dish we tried was outstanding.
Beyond the great food, the service was absolutely top-notch. Our waitress, Petrus, was an absolute gem. She was incredibly sweet and attentive, offering excellent recommendations for our meals and ensuring our service was prompt and courteous. What truly set her apart was her genuine warmth; later in the evening, when we greeted her on the terrace, she even offered to take our photo in the street – a truly wonderful and thoughtful gesture that made our experience even more memorable.
We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Budapest. If you have the chance, be sure to ask for Petrus; you won't be disappointed! It was, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we've had...
