How? From the moment we stepped into Tokyo in Budapest, we felt the unique atmosphere. The minimalist yet elegant design created a pleasant ambiance, and the service was professional and attentive. Our waitress demonstrated deep knowledge of the dishes, effortlessly explaining every ingredient without needing to check with the kitchen – a true mark of expertise.
What? We started with Pad Kra Pao Nuea – a rich ragù of high-quality tenderloin beef, seasoned with fresh herbs, served over rice with a fried egg on top. The flavors were deep and well-balanced, with a delicate spiciness that blended perfectly. Next, we had Horenso, a spinach salad that proves how just three or four ingredients can transform into culinary genius. The freshness of the ingredients and the precise combination of flavors and textures created a simple yet addictive dish.
Then came the Sushi Boat, and the moment it was placed on the table, I felt as if I was on a boat in the middle of the sea. The freshness was astonishing – every bite carried the pure and clean scent of the ocean, as if the fish had been caught just moments before. The quality of the ingredients was exceptional, and the balance of textures and flavors created an authentic Japanese experience.
For dessert, we enjoyed Chizukeki – a crème brûlée cheesecake with crumble and raspberry sorbet, the perfect way to end the meal. The combination of crispy caramelization, velvety cheesecake, and the tartness of the raspberry rounded off the experience beautifully.
Bottom Line? Tokyo is a must-visit restaurant in Budapest. The food is precise, the ingredients are of the highest quality, and the service is outstanding. A fantastic atmosphere, impeccable design, and a truly authentic Japanese culinary journey – we’ll definitely be...
Read moreI was in town for the weekend with a girlfriend who was super excited to take me here for cocktails and sushi. We were there early at around 17.30 and the place was still pretty empty. Things started ok- our waiter came and took our order and we got our drinks and food in a pretty timely manner. After he first took our order, we didn’t see him again and wanted to order another drink. We were trying to flag down someone, but were ignored. After around 10 minutes or so my friend just decided to order her drink at the bar since it was empty and the bartender was there. Another waitress came up to me in that moment and was super annoyed and said, “why is she ordering there, you need to wait for me to come.” I told her we didn’t know she was our waitress, since our waiter we had at first disappeared. She went up to my friend in front of all the other guests and aggressively told her off for ordering at the bar and not waiting for her. We were both just super shocked. The waitress then came back and tried to press her point again which made it worse. It was just so awkward and really ruined what we had hoped would be a really chill, fun night! We had to wait again to find someone to bring the bill (in the end I stood up and found someone to say we wanted to pay and go). We got the big sushi platter and 2 cocktails and then got charged a service fee as well when I wouldn’t have tipped for the bad treatment. All in all, food was good, the restaurant is lovely, but the service was really rough and the one waitress was just incredibly rude. They didn’t do anything to apologize for the awkward confrontation, and we left just really disappointed. Would recommend skipping. There are so many other wonderful restaurants in Budapest with...
Read moreOur visit to this restaurant left us quite surprised, considering the overall rating it had received. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to our expectations. Despite being one of only three occupied tables in the establishment, the staff seemed absent and inattentive. We had to resort to seeking assistance from a sommelier, who then took 15 minutes to find a waiter to take our order. During this time, we noticed that the waiter was solely focused on serving and attending to the other two tables, leaving us feeling neglected. To our disappointment, the menu offered limited options, consisting primarily of soups, ramen, and sushi. The sushi selections, while satisfying in taste, were unreasonably expensive. We sampled the Pho chicken soup, Mangalica Pork Ramen, and Terimayo Unagi sushi. Regrettably, only the sushi managed to meet our expectations, although the steep price diminished our enjoyment. The Pho dish failed to capture the warm and flavorful essence of an authentic Asian dish, resembling more of a tasteless broth than a satisfying soup. Similarly, the ramen was unremarkable, lacking the distinctive flavors and ingredient profiles that make a memorable bowl of ramen. It is disheartening when dishes fall short of delivering on their promised flavors, and in this case, both the Pho and ramen left us disappointed. The lackluster experience was further compounded by the limited menu options and exorbitant pricing for the sushi. While we appreciate the effort put into the sushi, it cannot compensate for the overall lack of satisfaction we encountered. Regrettably, we cannot recommend this restaurant for a fulfilling dining experience, as the dishes failed to impress, and the service was...
