Overall: ★★★★☆
The four stars relate solely to the food and is relative to what it is: a street food treat!
Langos Papi’ is quite literally a hole in the wall. Seating consists of three plastic stools next to a block of wood outside shared with a bin and a flock of pigeons.
For those wondering, a lángos is a typical Hungarian dish consisting of fried bread dough - which is very light and airy and served with a variety of toppings. The traditional one is cheese, garlic and sour cream.
Langos Papi’ did not disappoint and was a really enjoyable treat.
Food: Langos - Hungarian fried flat bread centre
What I liked:
• Made fresh to order • Very light & tasty • Good value • Lots of options
What I didn’t like:
• The expectation of a tip being thrust in front of you when paying. This is not a restaurant! • The kitchen although small could still be kept cleaner and more hygienic looking • Could make more of an effort to keep their little external area cleaner and tidier. • Place something down to deter the pigeons.
Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value?...
Read morePrice (2200ft for a classic Langos) seems much more expensive than other options, but this joint is very near lots of hostels and hotels, so if you just want to try a Langos then it's a good option.
It comes fast and in a big portion, and the guy on the counter was pleasant. However be aware that when you pay by card you're prompted to add a tip, even though this is just a takeaway counter, not a restaurant, which felt odd to me. He did tell me where to press to add no tip, but this feels like a tactic to socially pressure clueless tourists to spend a little more money, which doesn't feel great.
The Langos was good, though. Greasy, fresh and very filling. There is very little seating, but you can walk down the street towards a fountain where there are some public benches to eat at. One Langos is definitely enough for 2 people - I think I have to...
Read moreAs a person from a country where langos is pretty typical food I did not expect great or mind-blownes. I was expecting a good langos. And that's what I got, maybe you could even say I got great langos. Their way of doing them was the typical messy street food way. No playing around just straight to the point. Firstly I thought it's too pricey, but when I later saw other langos points and their size of servings for even higher price, I realized how wrong I was ( well only looking at the prices from Budapest side, it was still expensive). The only problem was that we were there during rush over, so a lot of people meant that when we got our langos it was not that warm ( that doesn't mean that it wasn't fresh, we saw them making them on spot). They put generous heaping of cheese, and they could for my taste put more sour...
