TLDR: you have plenty of other options, avoid this place and give your money to businesses that appreciate you doing so.
Giving one star because giving 0 is not possible.
There is nothing wrong with the place itself. It is comfortable (horribly dirty bathroom tho), it has plenty of place for work/study however it does get busy and loud.
The problem is the service and the attentiveness of the staff, or much rather the lack of it. I arrived and was served by a lady who showed no interest in doing her job whatsoever. I asked for a smoothie, the response was “oh we don’t have that”. Fair enough, I asked for a MINT tea. Now just to clarify, normally a mint tea means peppermint. Regardless if it’s fresh peppermint or not, mint tea is mint tea.
I got my tea and tasted absolutely nothing like peppermint. I tasted it several times, waited a couple of minutes to cool it down to make sure I am not complaining about something irrelevant. But it was not peppermint. I took it back. As I was walking to the counter both the lady mentioned before and the guy standing behind the bar walked away, not to have to talk to me.
When finally the lady came back, while chewing on something, I politely explained that I ordered a mint tea and it tasted nothing like peppermint. She checked the label and the tea and said “it is peppermint”. Knowing that it is not peppermint I asked if maybe it was a mixed tea. By this time the guy arrived too with a threatening approach, wanting to know what was wrong. I explained the same and asked, “is this mint tea?”. His answer: “yeah, why?”. Then finally after so much effort trying to sort this out he baffled “it is GINGER MINT tea”, making it seem like I am the stupid customer complaining about something stupid.
Dear MonCheri, and your absolutely utterly unprofessional staff: peppermint and ginger mint are two different plants. Educate yourself on the products you sell and people pay for, get manners and go figure. This is not a...
Read moreThis is one of the best places to study, hangout or just have a quick coffee. It’s fairly central in the Pest side (a minute walk from Astoria metro station); one catch a bus, metro or tram quite easily from here. After the public library closes (and on weekends), Mon Cheri is my go to spot to get some work done. They’re open till 11pm which gives students and alike a lot of time to be at a place and study. The ambience is really good and the place is spacious too; even then, get yourself a spot on Friday and Saturday noon time because the place gets pretty full by the afternoon and evenings (especially on weekends). The baristas and managers are friendly too; for a person who doesn’t speak Hungarian, I was able to communicate with them fairly easily. Once I became a regular, they tried their best to get me a seat whenever I arrived during peak hours. The coffees at Mon Cheri are pretty good and they are served sizeable cups. Mon Cheri also has some of the best pastries, pies, cookies and muffins; recommendation: lemon pie, berry pie, blueberry muffin and layered chocolate cake. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot to hangout, study or looking to eat some...
Read moreI was there with my friends and family last week on November 14th at around 5pm and we had our 14 month old baby with us. The cashier girl was really rude to us. She was like “Why the hell did you come here?” First we asked her if we can pay by credit card and she, without saying a word and rolling her eyes, pointed at a tiny little card saying “only cash”. After we gave our orders we once again kindly asked her if she can tell us the wifi password, she once again murmured and pointed at a little slip of paper with the wifi password written on it. Then I asked her if they had red velvet cake, as there were many posters about the red velvet cake on the walls of the cafe, she said bad-temperedly “No we don’t”, then I answered “Why do you have all these posters then everywhere?” and then she went wild. She was like she wanted to punch me in the face, she went to her co-worker complaining about me and staring at me . After I got my coffee and went back to sit down with my friends, I felt troubled with the way the cashier girl looked at me like she wanted to kill me, and unfortunately her friends gave me and my friends the same look until we got out...
