Impeccable experience and such a pleasant surprise. I was initially attracted by the fact that they have their own wine produced in Hungary but there was much more to it than the wine alone.. Let's start with the food. Every course has been a joy to eat. It has been either a fun twist on an hungarian classic or an altogether enjoyable dish. Not a huge amount of options on the menu, big plus in my opionion as they are really focusing on what they are doing rather than pleasing the Instagram cowds . We have decided to go down the fish route. Appetiser, soup and main, just my wife has chosen the vegetarian option as main. All three courses did not disappoint. The broth of the soup was well balanced and hitting just the right chordes with the addition of a nice saffron kick. Both mains were exceptionally good, simple (ish) yet daring to experiment with different flavours but without overcomplicating things. Pro tip get the duck liver pate with raspberries and chocolate as a dessert rather than appetiser. Best decision I have made in 2024. Such a nice way to wrap up this dinner. Food is a solid 9. Service: to begin with I'd like to say a huge thank you to Dora and George(I hope i have not noted down the wrong names!). Dora has looked after us throughput the night with care, patience and willingness to help as we had some dietary requirements to adjust to(my wife is diabetic). She has done a fantastic job looking after us and making sure we were picking the best options. George was our sommelier and we have happily bonded over a shared passion for good spirits and, specifically, good whiskey that myself, my wife and him all share as a common passion. It has been a long time since we have dealt with someone with a true passion for what they do in the hospitality sector. George is one them and shame on those that dare stopping him when he is explaining the spirits cart, they are all missing out! Appreciate the passion and let the man guide you, you will not regret it. Both Dora and George were happy to answer to all our question on the dishes we were served and the alcohol we were drinking, enhancing the whole experience. Shout out to the whole team as this is clearly a well run place, and they are all very good. By far one of the best service experience we have had in a long time. 11 out of 10 for care (care exemplifies better good service, i Th8nk) and I am being conservative. Not sure when we'll be back in Budapest but this restaurant will be on our list for sure! Thank you all At St. Andrea for a...
Read moreWe've had high expectations of this restaurant after reading so many good reviews about it. I contacted the restaurant before I booked a table to check if they can offer options for vegans as one of us has dietary requirements. They assured me that they have vegan options on the menu, as well as we can discuss daily / other options in person with the waiting staff. We arrived five minutes early at 5:55pm and a waiter was just entering the restaurant from the building's lobby so I asked him if it was possible to go in and take a seat. At this point I saw that there were a few people in the restaurant already. He looked at me in a really odd way while he was ready to close the doors and asked me if I had a reservation. I told him that I did. We were showed to a table grudgingly. While the menu cards were handed out the waiter asked in an abrupt manner if there was a vegan in our group. We said yes and he said that the vegan person's choices will be limited as they are not a vegan restaurant. 'You can have a salad and some roasted vegetables as your main course.' No discussion at all, we were just given an ultimatum in a rather dismissive way. When the bread arrived we were told that they are not sure what the ingredients are but it 'should be' vegan. The waiter said that they don't make their own bread but get it frozen from a bakery. I asked if he could check the ingredients but he said it was not possible. I was rather shocked that a rather expensive and highly regarded restaurant would not be making their own bread. The waiting staff remained cold and unfriendly throughout the whole meal. The food was just OK, nowhere near the quality we expected. The only positive things I can say about this restaurant is the stunning interior design and the smooth live music. We left very disappointed and would definitely not recommend this restaurant due to its unfriendly service and poor...
Read moreHighly recommended fine dining restaurant with excellent and tasty dishes, spot on food-drink pairing and friendly service in English. Especially recommended: the non alcoholic drinks.
The food We had the Traditional Innovative 6-course menu (4 is also possible). It was a delight from start to end. The chef stayed indeed close to the traditional Hungarian cuisine. All dishes were made with high quality ingredients. The chef also stayed true to the promise of innovative with plenty of pleasant surprises: find the stone, tingle your taste buds and herb your chocolate enthusiasm. We loved the zucchini/wild rabbit dish, the duckfat and bread and well... Everything served.
The drinks Sommelier János does the food and drink pairing with visible enthusiasm. The non-alcoholic menu is made entirely from home made drinks. Not a typical soda, but expect kombucha, sour cherry and beetroot/strawberry. The wines come from the St. Andrea winery and all go along well with the dishes. Mind that some of the whites tend to be on the cold side. This flattens the taste at first, but once they abtaine the right temperature, they are as tasty as anything on the table.
The restaurant and staff A modern interior with table linen, a fancy bar and a guitar player that plays along with the speaker music (it was a Friday night). It's neat but not too posh. You can wear your jeans and T-shirt. For us a more simple interior would have done fine. The food, drinks and staff are really the key to this place. All waiters were friendly and quick with their service. Expect an honest kind smile and knowledgeable answer when you have a question.
Expect to pay around 100 euro/330.000 HUF p.p. In return you get a full evening with wonderful, surprising food, tasty drinks and...
