Vaslap hamburgers — Restaurant in Budapest

Picture this. You’re a child. Having a Big Mac for the first time. The excitement that you feel to finally join the ranks of those who have eaten the glorious burger before you is overwhelming. You take a bite. Earth shattering. The heavens open and you hear angels singing. Fast forward 20 years. You’re an adult and Big Macs don’t hold the magic that they did as a kid. In fact, they’re disgusting. But you still have that nostalgic ache in your heart for a burger that can live up to the memory of the first bite of that super-sized Big Mac. You arrive at Vaslap; a humble shop with a handsome cook behind the counter. You order the bbq burger with fries and a coke. Just another dinner in another city. You wait at the small bar listening to the grill sizzle. Your burger is served. You take a bite. The childhood memory comes rushing back; much like the scene in the 2007 Pixar movie, Ratatouille when Anton Ego takes a bite of well, the ratatouille. You’re a kid again and that Big Mac is clutched between your small grubby hands. You are euphoric. The burger at Vaslap is more than just the best burger in Hungary; dare I say the world. It’s memories. Each bite brings you back to happier days that no Big Mac could ever contend with… as an adult or a child. Eat here if it’s the last thing you do with your miserable life. At least...

I have planned to visit this place for a long time but somehow always ended up some other places. And what a bad decisions I made.

The place is small but with really nice design and furniture. The chef is very polite and helpful, feel free to ask anything about their offers. You can feel that he is really passionate about cooking.

Now let's talk about the burger. Long story short, it's just perfect. The bun, meat vegetable ratio is well balanced. I really enjoyed the fresh flavours of the lettuce and the sourness of the pickles. The burger sauce is well seasoned but not overwhelming. I ordered the meat medium-rare. It was pink and juicy in the middle with a nicely caramelized crust outside, seasoned with some salt and pepper. The texture was a bit rougher than what I'm used to but it was just more flavourful this way.

I got french fries with it and obviously it was also just perfect. It had a nice crunchy crust but was creamy inside. As you can see on the picture the whole meal just looked beautiful and appetizing. The size of the burger is perfect, not small but still easy to eat. The price is absolutely reasonable, I would say it's cheap for such a high quality burger.

The restaurant is open and operable after long close down due the pandemic. A decent burger restaurant with a very good, close to downtown, location that is easy to approach by bus 74 or metro. The minimal staff performs with maximum efficiency and politeness. The choice of the burgers is the usual, the quality, including the taste, of the bun, patty, sauce, fresh vegetables and other ingredients etc. is excellent. All burgers are freshly made in approximately 10-15 minutes. I had the BBC burger (medium rare), Sanyi's favorite burger (some blue cheese added) and Vaslap burger (well done) all to my liking. Regarding the Sanyi's favourite burger I have ordered repeatedly I can only cite Samuel L. Jackson's words in Pulp Fiction: "This is a tasty burger!"
