Firstly, I booked through a Agoda and the photo of the hotel advertised on their website no longer is the same as it looks now. Part of the hotel on the corner is for sale which immediately made me question whether they’re having money issues and I had to prepare myself for the worse.
I took my mum away for her 65th birthday and I never asked the hotel to do anything for me but they’d prepared a little cake for her which I thought was really kind and made my mum really happy. It took her less than five minutes to eat it all.
The room had everything, from microwave, to oven, hairdryer, washing machine, iron, slippers and more!
There wasn’t a view. I was above an old glass roof conservatory kind of thing facing other rooms.
The air con wasn’t good. I in fact woke up sweating some nights. I’m glad I came home before the major heatwave.
I never use housekeeping, so I can’t comment on that. I’m no hippy or clean freak but I like to tidy myself and know my stuff hasn’t been touched.
The gym is small and is located in add place between the stairway. It is possible to use for the means of maintenance. Extremely limited equipment though. There is access to Anantara gym through the hotel which is more presentable and has a bit more equipment but again, is limited to what you can work. I would have love for there to have been less cardio equipment and more barbells.
The Nh collection and Anantara are apart of the same group if I’m not mistaken, so you can access their hotel through the Nh collection. That also means you can access the New York Cafe that’s supposedly famous in Budapest. I personally don’t care for it. The coffees are very mediocre and cost £15 or so.
The location of the hotel is reasonable as it means you’re surrounded by bars, restaurants and groceries.
One thing that let the stay down is that they wanted £20 to access the swimming pool which I thought was extortion considering, in the U.K. it only cost £7.50 to access a full leisure centre with access to sauna and a steam room.
After more time in the room I had started to noticed small imperfections, such as coffee stain on the netting, light fixtures looking as if they’re going to fall out of the ceiling, a tear in the couch and the mini-bar having some kind of debris inside it.
I personally don’t view the hotel as a 4-star. It would be more accurate to say it’s a 3-star.
Note for the hotel: Thank you for the cake. Please address the small issues addressed above. Room 376. Also, see that raid is used because I found a few beetles in the bathroom but I got rid of them before my mum saw them and freaked out. Also, the painting on the wall in main room is a...
Read moreSuperfriendly and helpful staff, immense, beautiful rooms and convenient location make the Boscolo Residence a fantastic value in Budapest.
We stayed at the Boscolo Residence while traveling to Budapest for the F1 race. I think I thought I had booked the Boscolo Palace next door for an unbelievable price, and was confused when we walked in there and were told to use the entrance on the other side, but once we saw the room, I had no regrets. I think the apartments were built as luxury residences, but never filled up so they are used as a hotel now. We booked a normal suite and got upgraded to the premier suite at checkin.
Service was phenominal, very friendly and helpful. They were able to give us good directions downtown, some sightseeing tips, help us get to the F1 track, and arrange an excellent cab to the airport for us. We were also greeted with a friendly smile and hello everytime we left or came back.
The room was incredible. We had an immense kitchen and living room overlooking the street, almost a 180 view from the corner, a massive bathroom, master bedroom, and second bedroom / office. I would have been happy living here for a while. We also had an exercise machine in the living room. The bathroom had marble floors, great water pressure, and both a tub and shower stall. The bedroom had more than ample closet space and a nice view of the street, without any noise, though we did have to close the blackout curtains at night because of the street lights. The kitchen had a nice fridge which was good for the 100 degree weather as well as utensils and cooking instruments. Wifi was present throughout and nice and fast.
The location was good, very close to a lot of restaurants and many less touristy, local bars which we enjoyed. It was also a fairly short walk downtown and to the bridge over to Buda and the historic district and castle. Also close enough to the central market for us to pop down for breakfast one day. It was also convenient to walk from the train station with our luggage on arrival, though the street from there was not super well lit, and most of the places were closed that night which lent a less welcoming atmosphere, but every other night was wonderful and we enjoyed hanging out at the bars nearby.
The Boscolo residence is a wonderful home away from home and a great base for...
Read moreEdit: I posted the review at the bottom halfway through our stay. A very nice manager reached out and talked through our experience. She upgraded us to a nicer room, which I’m grateful for, though it only reinforced the issues this hotel has.
For days the stairwells had trash on nearly every floor. We finally told the front desk and a visibly annoyed woman said she’d tell housekeeping. The shower gel container fell off the wall in the middle of my shower, narrowly missing my foot. All I could do is laugh since I’d come to expect nothing to actually work by that point.
The wifi drops so often it’s unusable for any real work. Our fridge didn’t close before we even came into the room, so the ice melted everywhere and there was a puddle on the floor. The stairs in our unit had wobbly railing. I could go on and on.
Hector, the room service guy I mentioned below, continued to be the smiling ray of sunshine throughout our stay. Promote him and fire everyone in housekeeping. The washing machine in our second room was much better.
The hotel needs an overhaul of the housekeeping and maintenance teams. Until that happens, everything else is window dressing.
——— Original review: I'm unclear how this hotel has such great reviews. The rooms are large, the price is decent, the location is very good, but the service is fairly bad and there are quite a few gnats/bugs. We've killed 4 in our room so far (I know). The washing machine in our room had stale water in it. Gross.
The front desk people are not friendly, the phone in our room to call down to the lobby or room service doesn't work, the room feels dated. The air conditioner in our room is good and the room service delivery guy is fantastic. If I was the general manager, I'd promote him immediately and have him train everyone else in the hotel on how to smile, talk to customers, and provide friendly service.
You can tell immediately upon entrance to the low ceiling, very hot, small lobby that this is not a 4 star hotel. The gym is pretty good, I'll say that. This is a 2 star hotel masquerading as a 4 star. If you get a great price, it's maybe worth it. If it's more than $150/night, I'd...
