Fantastic dinner experience with the wonderful folks at Eyja. Solo diner. I was looking for something different and the Eyja wine list peaked my interest. They have a good selection and excellent menu to pair well with their wines. I chose the mussel stew (I am calling it stew, but not sure that was actual name). FANTASTIC!!! All local mussels (spoke with staff about the dish). I had a glass of their open bottle option. (Tempranillo) They open several different bottles each night, so this was a great way to try wines that are not normally a by the glass option. Absolutely lovely. An overall great experience for this solo diner who often gets treated like a pariah wasting a table. The staff was wonderful, checking in with me episodically and just the right amount of energy ! Hope to go back again !! Highly recommend for a dinner or glass of wine solo or...
Read moreThe food was good, but the service was disappointing to say the least. I expected a decent inclusive environment but my partner and I were met with shaming and rude comments about how much food was ordered. I had a small plate and an entree and my partner had two entrees. Why shame someone for the amount of food someone orders and pays for, very odd behavior. Afterwards, we went to pay and our server was laughing as she walked up to us and continued to laugh so hard as she read out everything we ordered to the point that another server had to walk up and take her place for payment. I’ve never experienced such bullying behavior at a restaurant before, but I don’t recommend it. You would think after we paid 32000 isk for a meal we could get decent service but...
Read moreAs an American visiting Iceland, my family loved this place. Menu from Aug 2024. The cheese dishes (18 month Tundir & Halloumi) were herbaceous refreshing meal starters which paired well with the savory freshly roasted almonds. My table ordered the cod and beef main courses. The cod was prepared to perfection topped with a miso glaze and dill foam atop roasted potatoes and carrots. The beef dish was a sliced tenderloin resting over brisket with a pumpkin puree with au jus. Eyja is a cozy upscale dining experience with an abundance of love and meticulous passion for their patrons. Anyone who finds themselves in Akureyri should take a stroll through the center of town and stop at Eyja. Reservation highly...
