The American Bar in Reykjavik is a charming and cozy spot that effortlessly combines a laid-back vibe with a touch of sophistication. Located in the heart of the city, it's a popular destination for both locals and tourists, offering a welcoming atmosphere with an American bar feel. Whether you're looking to enjoy a casual drink after a day of sightseeing or unwind with friends, this bar has something for everyone.

The drink menu is extensive, featuring a great selection of craft cocktails, local beers, and premium spirits, with an impressive collection of whiskey for enthusiasts. The bartenders are skilled and friendly, often willing to tailor cocktails to your personal taste, which adds to the overall warm, personable experience. There’s a real attention to detail in the drinks served, with high-quality ingredients used in every cocktail.

The décor is a nod to vintage Americana, with retro-inspired elements and a stylish, comfortable setting. The interior is a perfect blend of relaxed and inviting, ideal for both intimate gatherings and larger groups. Music plays a subtle but important role in the atmosphere, with a mix of soft tunes that provide a pleasant backdrop without overpowering conversation.

While prices are on the higher end (as is typical in Reykjavik), the quality of the drinks and the service make it a worthwhile experience. Whether you're a cocktail connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a good drink in a cozy setting, the American Bar offers an enjoyable escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Reykjavik and in search of a unique...

I cannot speak to the bars atmosphere or food as I didn't stay. The reason for the one star review is the name "American bar" is an inaccurate name. A more appropriate name would be "European Sports Bar that also shows NFL Games". I went here to watch a CFB game thinking a place that claimed to be an American sports bar would be showing some CFB, a major US sports market, but was told they wouldn't change any TVs because they were watching soccer. I arrived at 9 PM so I would have thought they could have spared a TV to watch CFB as I'd assume by then most European soccer games were already over so I can only guess they were watching ones from South America. As an American don't waste your time coming here unless you only want to watch an NFL game, apparently that's all they think Americas watch.

For Europeans to understand how this comes off imagine you're in the US and want to watch cricket, billards, rugby, or darts so you find a bar called English Pub but when you show up they say "sorry it's Saturday and that's CFB day so we won't put those sports on". Because as everyone knows premier league soccer is the only sport...

The food was excellent and delivered in a very timely manner, ordered a meal deal consisting of fries which were perfectly salted and had the right amount of crunch, hotwings that were indeed very fiery but had a cool sauce that kept refreshing the temperature as to not overload my tongue with the usual numbing burn of standard hotwings, there are no complaints with the burger and although the menu is very small and quaint when it comes to food, the chef has my praise nonetheless because they have the formula down to a T. The music and ambience of the venue is comforting and warm with a few signs to chuckle at with tongue and cheek humour. The service wasn't overbearing but instead just very convenient and on-time. This is a bar after all so a big food menu isn't to be expected but rather I encourage them to expand their range food-wise as the person in the kitchen clearly knows their way around cooking up enforcing....

Had gone for a holiday to Reykjavík for Christmas last year (2023) and while walking and exploring downtown, we found this bar. The name truly gives this place is justice cause the entire setup is like an American bar. From the posters to the lighting and even the sport channels whoch show American football, this is a great place to sit and chill and have a few drinks. The service was very nice as everyone was very attentive and they have a large selections of beers. On the 24th and 25th, they had the drinks available only as it was Christmas but from the 26th, the food items were available as well. Please do visit the bar if you want an American touch to your Icelandic visit. :) I really had a great time for all the three days I visited the place as they had good seating arrangements and also a large enough area to walk around. Even the restrooms were clean and hygienic. Overall, a good and enjoyable experience. 🌟🌟🌟

The wife and I had been enjoying walking the whole of Reykjavik and decided we needed some food and drink. We can categorically say we walked into the right place. We found a table to sit at and was soon greeted by a lovely gentleman who recommended the lunchtime special. It was amazing at such a reasonable price, the beer was presented in a frozen glass which gave the beer a lovely smooth taste. The food came in good time and was presented exactly as it was shown on the display card on the table, which I have to say is not the norm. Both of our meals were cooked to perfection and were so tasty. We were so impressed that we returned the next day for a drink before we packed our cases to return home. We are hoping to return to Iceland later this year and know exactly where to visit for food and drink.
