Turk Kahvalti, A Turkish breakfast experience at OZ by Kebapchi at Bengaluru. On a windy weekend morning in Bengaluru, we ventured to OZ by Kebapchi at UB City for "Turk Kahvalti," which means Turkish breakfast or "before coffee," as coffee is typically served after breakfast to aid digestion. Not knowing what to expect, we went with an open mind, empty stomach, and loads of excitement to try the Turkish breakfast. First, the restaurant has a beautiful ambience and view, complementing the quietness of early morning scenes in Bengaluru. The serene setting set the perfect tone for our culinary adventure. We started our breakfast with “cay” or piping hot red tea, made in a caydanlik, a two-piece teapot, and served in the traditional tulip-shaped glass. The warmth of the tea was a delightful way to begin our meal. The breakfast spread was a delight to all our senses!!! Simit Bread, Lavash, and Pide Bread are a variety of freshly baked breads that are soft, flavourful, and perfect for dipping and savouring with different accompaniments. Cinnamon Soft Bites, these sweet, spiced morsels were a treat, providing a delightful contrast to the Savory items. Kaymak with Honey Extract, The Rich, creamy kaymak drizzled with honey was divine, offering a luxurious texture and taste. Cheese Platter with Fruits and Salad, A selection of cheeses paired with fresh fruits and salad provided a refreshing and balanced flavour profile. Pitted Olives, added a briny, savoury touch to the breakfast, complementing the other dishes perfectly. Sujuk (Sucuk), dry, spicy, fermented sausage was packed with flavour and added a delightful spiciness to the breakfast. Za’atar Labneh, Creamy labneh with the earthy, herby notes of za’atar was a standout, perfect for spreading on fresh breads. Tahini with Hazelnut, A nutty, rich spread that added a unique flavour to the meal. Mihlama, This cornmeal melted cheese dish was comfort food at its best, gooey and delicious. Mini Pide, Small, boat-shaped bread topped with chicken and cheese. Saffron and Apricot Jam, are a sweet, fruity complement to the savoury dishes. Menemen, a traditional Turkish egg dish with tomatoes and peppers, was hearty and satisfying, rounding off the breakfast perfectly. They had a paneer variation for vegetarians too. Our experience at OZ by Kebapchi was a delightful journey through Turkish cuisine. The combination of authentic flavours with a modern twist, beautiful presentation, and the serene ambience of the restaurant made for a memorable morning. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Turkish food or new to the cuisine, OZ by Kebapchi is worth a visit for a unique and enjoyable breakfast experience...
Read moreI have lived in 5+ cities in the last 20 years & have travelled a fair bit. Oz by Kebapci is perhaps at the extreme end in the sense it is downright the worst place I've been to in a fine-dine setting.
To begin with, they didn't have air conditioning working. They don't have a washroom. It's not kid friendly with no high chairs (apparently they only had one which was occupied). None of the serving staff cares about you. They just make you sit and don't bother. On the judgment day, when Atartuk will wake up from his grave in Ankara, he will not face God first. He'll join forces with Abdul Mecid, raise an army and come to Bengaluru. Here they'll meet Muhammad Ali & Shaukat Ali, and together sack Oz at UB City.
No one comes to take the order. No one comes to bother with water. No one really bothers. This place is an Ikea which levies a 10% service charge. Ikea at least has better food.
Coming to food. That in itself wasn't as bad as the service of the staff here. But it didn't seem fresh at all. Perhaps the ploy behind not running air conditioning was to not make the heated food go back cold again very soon. Some of the most intricate Turkish dishes were served in time less than they took to make the mocktails. In fact, the mocktails were ordered first & served last. Probably in Turkey that's the norm.
We spent one hour at the restaurant. First 30 mins for someone to take the order, next 10 mins to go out to the mall washroom and also get some air conditioning. 10 mins to eat & another 10 mins to get the bill - which was sent wrongly against our table.
The bill sent was lesser than for what we ordered but when I pointed it out it was incorrect, they gave a look as if we are making them work more than the most unworthy 10% service charge.
Thanks to the online payment discount, I got 10% off, so morally I don't feel culpable of this theft!
Oz's service does serve a purpose. In case you have ever been to a downright horrible restaurant which is also super expensive & the horrors of that visit are still bothering you, then you should visit Oz. Not only you'll remember the previous horrors fondly, you would also now have new nightmares with at least better ambience.
This was our second anniversary dinner, and in one way or the other, Oz has definitely made it memorable.
For that...
Read moreIf you’re looking to elevate your dining experience in terms of the taste and the grandeur of the location, head straight to Öz by Kebapçi in UB City. Starting from the welcome that one receives at the entrance to the adieu post meal, the care and hospitality with which the team at Öz operates is commendable. Walking in to the restaurant, one gets transported to the streets of Turkey, thanks to the music, the decor and overall vibe.
We started off with the MUTTON ANTEP and coupled it with the aromatic TURKISH TEA. The rose flavour of the tea refreshes you. The Antep is the quintessential Turkish mutton kebab that one sees a lot on Instagram these days. Its melt in the mouth consistency went really well with the pita bread and the hummus that it was served with. Next we tried one of Öz’s signature called the PEPPER NAZLIK. It’s a vegetarian dish where peppers are stuffed with olives, jerkins with potato and feta cheese. The tzatziki that it was served on just elevated the taste of the peppers even further. It’s definitely a must try when you visit. Next we tried the KILLS CHICKEN WITH PILAF. It’s essentially a semi gravy chicken dish served with lentil soup. The rice was amazingly flavoured with spices and condiments and the lentil soup went really well with it. What didn’t go that well was the chicken. The exterior of the chicken was tasty but the insides were a bit bland for my taste buds. We ended the meal with the TURKISH BAKLAVA SUNDAE. It’s a must have when you’re basting. The serving staff put up a mini show for us as it was our anniversary and presented the baklava in the most unique fashion. Having had baklava earlier as well, I can safely say that this was the best I had had till now.
All in all, a great place to dine specially if you’re looking to celebrate a...
