Mahjong Room — Restaurant in Bengaluru

We recently celebrated my son's birthday at Mahjong Room at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotel, Richmond Road, Bengaluru, and it was an exceptional experience. While we love Indian food but this time thought of trying Chinese cuisine, and this restaurant exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding, with a diverse menu offering ample choices. The service was truly caring and warm, with staff showcasing in-depth knowledge of every dish and offering personalized suggestions.

What impressed us most was their willingness to customize dishes according to our preferences. For instance, when we ordered a dry dish that we wanted to be slightly saucy, the chef creatively modified it to our liking.

The dishes we enjoyed included seafood and asparagus soup, spinach and cottage cheese dumplings, prawn and chives dumplings, sliced lamb with chili, cumin, and coriander, pan-fried noodles, shredded chicken and sesame, and their signature fried rice with shrimp – all of which were top-class in terms of taste and presentation.

A highlight of our meal was a special blue colored flower tea that changed color to faint pink rose color when we squeezed lemon into it, and it had a soothing effect on our stomachs. Despite eating till we were full, we didn't feel any heaviness or discomfort post-dinner.

The cherry on top was when the restaurant staff surprised us by celebrating my son's birthday with a complimentary cake, making the evening even more special. What was even more heartwarming was seeing my 70 yrs old mother, who is traditionally inclined to North Indian simple cooked made food and had never tried Chinese food before, thoroughly enjoy every bite – the sparkle in her eyes while eating said it all!

It was an unfortunate day for ITC Welcomhotel as the Mahjong Room was entirely empty and we were seated in the all day dining where there were some people. The service staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was quite disappointing. We ordered a soup which was so-so, but not fantastic. We ordered a shrimp hargao which was also middling. We've had better hargao in other restaurants. We ordered mixed vegetable stir fry and thought it would be basically stir fried. Unfortunately, it was covered in a batter that made the stir fry almost like a Gobi Manchurian. It was definitely very sad to see this large, well decorated space with a huge buffet spread...

The Mahjong Room is a fantastic place for anyone who enjoys authentic Chinese cuisine. The ambiance is elegant and well-designed, perfect for both family gatherings and special occasions. The food is absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. The service is excellent; the staff is attentive, friendly, and always ready to recommend the best dishes.
