I have to say I was pretty impressed (and may be in love) with their Beef Salami & Gouda Cheese Sourdough French Toast and also tried their Beef Lasagne which was good too. Tried their hot chocolate which was ok. I loved their whole décor and whole experience and I really wanted to try the beef salami French toast one more time and I did this time but things didn’t quite go well as I thought…
LOCATION SCAN I’m gonna quote from my own previous post about FT to give you an idea about this place. “From outside, FT look like any other cafe in Kochi but their interiors is a whole other story. The white walls are decorated with funky and beautiful pieces of art. You can see heavy influence of western art and pop culture on those walls and what I loved the most, out of them all, is a wall drawing which resembles the Alice in Wonderland theme. Its magical. They have a glass counter ,near entrance with bakery items displayed beautifully and on top of it you can see handwritten menu of different coffee and tea available there. They also have a shelf full of crunchies and munchies (which include homemade bread, cookies, cakes, jams etc) which are made by them.” Because of my job, I am not able to do as much food journey I used to and most of my food journeys @Kochi now happen on weekends (and on weekdays while on job, Perumbavoor is my food circle in which I go round and round, as I eat and eat :D ) So yesterday, I got to go out with one of my fav bunch of foodie-buddys and since we were in Panampilly Nagar area we thought we would give FT a try before we moved on to some other food-spots. We arrived there around 3 and without much delay went inside and secured a nice comfy seat under some awesome art-frames. The waiter there provided us with a book-like menu which has got all food items arranged based on types (for eg Sandwiches, Pasta, Pancakes etc). After a brief review of menu we placed our orders
Red Velvet Latte (Rs 180) As I was craving for a coffee (though I had a tea 1 hour ago) so I checked coffee section and that’s when something interesting caught my eye- Red Velvet. Since I was in mood to have something sugary, ordered this without a second thought The big cup of coffee came ,with red velvet sprinkled on top of smooth foam, like a queen wearing a velveteen hat. After admiring this beautiful cup of coffee, we slowly separated the cloudy foam and started enjoying the heaven within. The coffee tasted just like coffee ,with added kick of red velvet. You can say it tasted like a bit sugary coffee with a thin layer of foam on top. Quantity wise i would say it’s enough to share with two (if you like to share, that is). We shared among us three since we didn’t feel like filling our tummy too much) and overall I loved it. I'm sure coffee gang with a sweet tooth can enjoy this coffee queen
Beef Salami & Gouda Cheese Sourdough (Rs 350) It was this sourdough that seduced me to go back to FT whenever I saw pics of it in my feed and on this 2nd visit I made sure I got to order this one While the first sourdough (from my 1st visit) I tried from this place was on point, this was a kind of sad story. When I first saw the sourdough I was skeptical since it didn’t look so good and all soggy (last time it looked so good) but then I thought may be it would taste ok and I was kind of wrong... Beef Salami French Toast ,as per menu description, is “stuffed with Beef Salami, Sweet Chilly Jam, Jalapenos, Gouda Cheese, garnished with Hollandaise Sauce, Mustard Seed Sauce and Spring onion” and ,usually, what makes this type of French Toast awesome is how all these elements plays out together when you take a bite. It’s basically an explosion of flavours. BUT in this case it...

French Toast, for all right reasons, is my personal favourite and #1 spot in Kochi, not just for the quality food served, but also for the unmatched ambience offered.
The menu boasts of a spread of continental dishes - and no prizes for guessing the star of the menu - the fabled French Toast.
We normally spent sufficiently long time just on deciding what to have, though “one” item off the menu is decided and reserved in advance.
We’ve had the following dishes (from several visits): Cheese Fries (lightly spiced and the cheese spread was yumm), Mexican Beef Chilly French Toast (minced beef meat with kidney beans), BBQ Sweet Chilly Chicken Wings French Toast (Goodness Gracious! This was a treat and a definite must try, the crispy chicken wings lightly sweetened with the BBQ Sauce and the succulent buttery bread where the knife just sinks into), Classic Beef Lasagne (this dish was a bit too cheesy for me, but taster quite good), Fish and Chips (I’m not a seafood person, but I actually liked the dish when had with a huge dip of mayo), Strawberry French Toast (the sugar rush was so heavenly that there is little wonder as to why this is one of their signature dishes and a personal favourite), Mont Blanc Cake (this pastry takes the quality game to the next level, with the imported ingredients playing different chords with your tastebuds), Mars Cake (another sinful pastry, the sugar high is severe and may leave you wanting more); and then there is my all time favourite and that “one” dish worth reservation and a hattrick visit - Banoffee Pie.
Located within an interior road (along the lane where Mammoottyy’s residence is situated), this place is well removed from the hustles and bustles of the outside world. The interiors are very well done, and the light music playing in the background takes the feel factor even higher.
The staff are polite and professional.
When it comes to pricing, as the adage goes - quality comes at a price. Menu is quite expensive, but the quality of the food and the dining experience here is worth the price. You don’t just pay for the food, but for the time spent well here.
French Toast is my personal favourite spot, and I’ve frequented this place, sometimes even alone. I make it a point to visit FT and spent some quality time whenever I’m at Kochi nowadays (I’ve relocated elsewhere).
Definitely...
Read moreA Disturbing Experience with a COCKROACH LEG at The French Toast, Kochi
Our visit to The French Toast in Kochi was nothing short of a nightmare, despite its charming ambiance. My friend and I had heard so much about this spot, celebrated as one of the finest English cuisine destinations in Kochi. We arrived with high expectations, eager to indulge in a memorable meal. Unfortunately, what we experienced was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
My friend ordered the classic French toast, and I decided on the beef meatballs with marinara sauce and sourdough bread. The presentation was appealing, and the atmosphere was inviting. Everything seemed perfect until, halfway through my meal, I saw it—a cockroach leg. Sharp, sinister, and undeniably real, sitting right there on my plate.
A wave of nausea hit me as I struggled to process what I was seeing. My initial reaction was disbelief, but as the reality sank in, so did a profound sense of disgust. I called the staff, but their initial response was indifferent. When the supervisor finally approached us, her demeanor was more dismissive than helpful. She insisted it was a “red scrubber,” an explanation that felt both absurd and evasive. Only after a tense exchange did they admit the truth—it was indeed a cockroach leg.
Though the supervisor eventually offered apologies, they felt empty and rehearsed. She kept repeating “sorry” as if saying it enough times could erase what had happened. They even offered us more food, but how could I eat after that? My appetite had turned to ash.
But the ordeal didn’t end there. Within hours, I began to feel unwell. What started as mild discomfort quickly escalated into a multi-day battle with sickness. I regretted every moment of stepping into that place.
We had gone to The French Toast in search of a culinary treat but left with a stomach full of regret and a story straight out of a horror movie. The restaurant may flaunt its high standards and lovely ambiance, but beneath the polished surface lies a deeply unsettling truth.
I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. A place that cares so little for hygiene and customer well-being is a place I...
