Legendary Mughlai restaurant of kolkata that pioneered Kathi roll & still serves lip smacking Mughlai food. Food rating: 5/5 β€οΈ Service rating: 2/5 π We ordered: 1. Mutton Kathi roll: Easily their most popular offering and tastes heavenly, thanks to the extremely flavorful & succulent mutton. Wish the roll were bit thicker for the price they command! A must try for everyone... π 2. Butter naan: Typical naan that is big enough to serve 2 people and looks eye pleasing due to the yellow colour. I've attached pic for reference. 3. Mutton rezala: Well, I wish it were bit spicy. Tastewise it's quite good. It's offered as 2 pieces of mutton. The chunks are of mostly medium & small. Also, the gravy should be thicker. Actually, it was bit watery!! 4. Firni: As good as other restaurants. But if they reduce the saffron flavor, it'll taste even better. Last but not the least, they also offer some Beef dishes as well! π€ However, the biggest elephant in the room is their lacklustre service. The waiters facial expressions are quite melancholic and bizzare. They hardly listened to me during my inquiry and was always running away. Absolutely awful and unexpected from such a legendary outlet. πππ Anyway, if I'm going there again, it's highly likely for their food and nothing else!!!

Nizam's...One of Kolkata's old legacy as far as their Biryani is concerned. The name is enough for biryani lovers in Kolkata. After a long time we had our lunch in newly renovated Nizam. It has two sections - Ac & Non-AC. The taste of the biryani is usually one of the best in Kolkata and slightly different from Aminia, Shimla, Shiraz. The rice is of top quality and the mutton is also relatively of good size. Mutton is very very soft and tender and one can even have the mutton with spoon & fork....Such is the softness of the mutton. But my real concern is the quantity. As per my opinion, the quantity does not justify the price when you are paying 522/- plus tax for Nizam's special mutton biryani and 330/- for Normal Mutton Biryani. I think the management should really consider this matter. We had also tried Chicken Kathi egg roll, price - 120/- plus tax and the taste of the roll was very nice. Ambience is also nice and they have tried to create a nostalgic environment inside the restaurant. So if one visit Kolkata or Esplanade then he or she must try Nizam's Biryani once for their taste and quality.Being a real fan of Nizam from my childhood, I would like to request the management to consider about the quantity of the Biryani so that it justifies the price.

Friday, October 8, 2021 9:00 PM IST (Post Covid19, New Market, Kolkata) Please support all the local, especially the old restaurants during these testing times... we have grown eating there legendary food... now it's time to help them survive. Please do visit Nizam's... First Impression. A lot of settings, people eating.... walls decorated with posters of old films... lamps... and bright lighting... The Ambience is very well done, except it's very hot, they do have wall fans and a few coolers... but... people tend to stand right in front of it... although they do have a new Air Conditioned area... I didn't prefer it... as I like traditional seating space. Anyway the most important part is food. Dinner time 9 PM... and thus goes the experience... I have had high hopes.... but it was extremely disappointing π. I wanted to try there famous kebab... but it was not available, there new mutton item... not available, Biryani not available, Kulfi Faluda again not available. More so... we did manage to get a few items to try... And after waiting and waiting... and just before patience ran out we were served... Paratha... priced at rs. 40... it was thinner than rumali roti... (being sarcastic π) Chicken chaap... tasted well... portions size is good enough for only one person... don't bother to share... Mutton Rezalla (second option, instead of there new dish) two small pieces of mutton about 50 grams each give or take... and about 250 grms of gravy... After a bill of around 650/675... it was a very disappointing experience. As I am writing this my grand mom, was telling us that my late grandfather took her out for lunch to Nizam's ages ago... remembering Kathi kebab and rolls .. after watchin a movie near by... it was they year they got married... It's a legendary outlet... it has a lot of history, and my only hope is that the promoters of the restaurant improves all the aspect of it. Despite this experience, I look forward to visit again. My reviews are impartial and is not in any way to advertise but to share my experience as I see it.

Nizam's restaurant is a famous eatery located in the Esplanade area of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India. The restaurant is known for its signature dish, the "Kathi Roll," which has become a popular street food item not only in Kolkata but throughout India and beyond. The restaurant was established in 1932 by a man named Ziauddin Ahmed, who came to Kolkata from Dhaka, which was then part of British India (now Bangladesh). Ahmed started a small tea stall in the busy Esplanade area of Kolkata, which gradually evolved into a full-fledged restaurant. The restaurant was named after the Nizam of Hyderabad, who was a prominent ruler in British India. Initially, Nizam's restaurant served Mughlai cuisine, which is a type of North Indian cuisine that developed in the royal kitchens of the Mughal emperors. However, it was the introduction of the Kathi Roll in the 1960s that really put Nizam's on the map. Nizam's restaurant remains a popular eatery in Kolkata and has become an important part of the city's culinary heritage. It is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of Ziauddin Ahmed, who started with a small tea stall and built a successful restaurant that has stood the test of time. You must try The Mutton Seekh kebab Kathi Roll and the Paneer Roll.
