If you're one of the lucky ones to have your workplace or college in Fort, near one of the old Iranian cafes, then you're in for a treat! It's a real blessing to have a place like Cafe Excelsior right opposite your workplace like I do. Wondering what makes this place so special? Let's find out...

Located right opposite the newly revamped Excelsior theatre, this peaceful cafe will transport you back to a time when people actually stopped to enjoy their tea and relished every morsel of food they'd eat. The ideal time to visit Cafe Excelsior is in the morning as it is relatively empty and peaceful. Why should one visit this place? Because it serves some of the best egg preparations in town.

After having visited this joint a number of times, I managed to try a few dishes including Chai, Bun Maska, Khari, Double Egg Omelette, Egg Bhurji, Egg Roll and Watermelon Juice. There's no greater joy than dipping crisp Khari (the portion served is huge!) or buttery Bun Maska into piping hot tea. It is undoubtedly one of the best ways to start off a breakfast spread. To beat the heat, watermelon juice is an alternative which is cool and served with watermelon pieces floating on top.

As for the egg preparations, the Omlette and Egg Roll is pretty much the same, both served with white bread with the only difference being that Egg Roll is a single egg omelette. It is prepared with onions, coriander and green chillies. I always prefer the double egg omelette as it is more filling. Having said that, the Egg Bhurji is egg sautéed with tomato, coriander and green chillies. It is wholesome by itself and you can ask for white bread along with it.

The only possible drawback of this outlet is that it is slightly high priced but I would still recommend it for its old-world charm, serenity and of course, the...

Visited Cafe excelsior after reading a blog last week. Had especially gone to have their mutton burger, which a very select few rave about. Sadly, their burger and shawarma guy had gone out of town, so it wasn't available. The waiter suggested to me to try their mutton cutlets and gravy, which is their most renowned dish. In fact, my mother had told me to get it packed, so I took one back home. As I was waiting for it to arrive, to kill time, I ordered a chicken puff. Sorry to say, it was truly subpar, very bland. Didn't enjoy it all. The waiter came back and told me to try their bread pudding. He said it would be on the house had I not liked it. I found it amusing, good, subtle flavor. It reminded me of kharvas (made from bovine colostrum). Paid the bill and bounced. Got back home, didn't have high expectations for the cutlets, honestly. To everyone's surprise, they were bloody amazing. It was perfectly fried in an egg batter. Beautifully done. The flavors were lovely and tasted so good. The gravy, despite being a Parsi one, weirdly felt so close to home. I had it sparingly so that I could enjoy it the day after, too. Highly recommend their cutlets. I will definitely keep coming again to pack some...

You will hardly take 5-7 mins by walk to reach Excelsior once you are out from the subway of CSMT railway station. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and like most of the reviews said, it wasn't crowded at all. After reading a few reviews and watching youtube videos, i had to visit this place, and i will tell you we weren't disappointed. * It had that vintage vibe, was clean and the service was quick with equally humble staff. * We started with their best seller - mutton keema salli with pav. It was really good. * You can also go for their chicken/ mutton cutlet with dry or gravy options. You may want to skip the Chicken Farcha though. * Well they have roti on their menu, but they mostly only serve bread pav and rice with their gravy dishes. * There obviously is the bun maska and chai which is again ordered by most (we did not try this). * Then comes the mostly served and mostly available beverage options- pallonji's raspberry and icecream soda. * The pudding towards the end was sone pe suhaga. Overall, good place, good food, and definitely not pricey. Also, i will surely visit again for the dishes i missed ordering. 🤭
