Hotel Saravana Bhavan — Restaurant in Zone 9 Teynampet

The restaurant is deceiving. We have had great experiences before at Hsb in different chennai outlets around 8 years back. The quality and service has drastically reduced now.

We went for dinner last evening after visiting the temple. Upon reaching we found a table and got seated, we kept asking them to clean the table but nobody listened to us and we had to scream and raise a tone for them to take us seriously, they were short staffed, the waiters were busy chatting amongst themselves, not attentive towards customers. We told the waiter to ask him to send the person to clean but she dint hear him, we moved to a table closer to her and asked her to clean and she started answering back very rudely.

Ok now coming to the food, we were told at 9pm there was only dosai, parotta and chapathi. I wanted to have north indian but the waiter sounded like please just choose something from what I listed I’m not giving you anything else. We ordered for two ghee masala dosai and one ghee roast. We got one masala dosai and the second one never came, the first person almost finished eating. Then the server comes and says sorry sir masala is over it will take time, meanwhile he came and kept “plain dosai” when I had very clearly asked him for ghee roast. The plain dosai my dad ate, and I ordered for a ghee roast the second time. It came, but was more like nei dosai and NOT NEI ROAST!! the bill was charged for dishes which were not even prepared the right way and they denied to change the bill to what we actually had.

I ended up ordering something for myself through zomato after reaching home because I was so disappointed and lost my appetite when I visited this place.

Such a chaos, the staff are preoccupied amongst themselves, pathetic customer service, please consider other better options around the locality, feel cheated with the bill as they charged for incorrectly...

Without a doubt, this was one of the most appalling dining experiences of my life, and from a so-called ‘legendary’ brand like Saravana Bhavan, Mylapore no less. The food was a complete disgrace — bland, stale, lifeless, and nowhere near the quality they shamelessly boast about. The insult didn’t stop there — they had the audacity to charge ₹175 + GST for a meal that didn’t even include extra rice, a fact conveniently hidden from the menu. When I raised the issue, the staff displayed an attitude that was nothing short of arrogant, dismissive, and utterly unfit for the service industry. The ambience was equally revolting — grimy tables, chaotic noise, an unhygienic environment, and absolutely no concern for customer comfort. For the absurd prices they demand, you don’t just get poor value — you get an outright scam. This outlet is a sad, hollow shadow of whatever glory it once claimed to have, surviving only on blind brand loyalty, not quality or service. Frankly, it’s an embarrassment to the name ‘Saravana Bhavan.’ If there were a zero-star option, I’d give it without hesitation. This was not just a waste of money, time, and appetite — it was an insult to anyone expecting even the most basic standards of dining. Avoid this place...

Party hall :

We had a 1st birthday function in saravana bhavan hotel Mylapore on 22nd Jan'20. We selected clasic dinner for the rate of 275 rupee per head. Their service is very worst as they did not provide anything if the guest are requesting. Morever, they did not provide proper response to the guests. The 1st service what they are providing is the first and final. If we reqest anything (example: for two chappathi they providing 2 teespone channa. So, obviously guest will ask channa 2nd time. But, the servers are showing attitude to the guest and makeing the guest to complete their dinner due to the improper response). I had my engagement in the same hotel and hall two years before. But, we had a very good hospitality. Based on that experience only we booked again the birthday party. But, it's very bad experience. Moreover, they told the head counts extra and charged for the same. Finally, I provided tips around 1000 to the services without knowing this kind of service they provided.
