Madras Coffee House has over 120 branches across the globe, this branch in Chennai is a nostalgic gem that effortlessly blends tradition with taste. Nestled in the heart of the city, this iconic spot is a must-visit for coffee lovers and anyone wanting to experience authentic South Indian filter coffee in its purest form.
The star of the menu is, of course, the degree filter coffeeâstrong, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with frothy milk served piping hot in a traditional dabara-tumbler. Itâs easily one of the best filter coffees in Chennai, brewed with just the right amount of chicory for that rich, earthy flavor.
Beyond coffee, the menu offers a diverse range of beverages, including fragrant teas, cooling buttermilk, rejuvenating nannaari sarbath, invigorating green tea, and luscious badam milk, a delightful variety of South Indian tiffin items including idli, vada, pongal, upma, dosas, and poori masala, all freshly made and served with coconut chutney and sambar. Their masala dosa is a standoutâcrispy on the outside with a generous, flavorful potato filling. The kesari and rava kichdi are comfort foods that hit the spot, especially when paired with coffee.
For a light snack, donât miss their samosas, cutlets, and medu vadas, which are always crisp and not overly oily. They also offer fresh fruit juices, tea, and badam milk for those looking for alternatives to coffee.
The ambiance is simple, clean, and steeped in old-world charm, giving off a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of Chennai's café culture from the 70s and 80s. The staff are polite and service is quick, making it an ideal place for a quick breakfast or a relaxed coffee break.

Read moreThis is one of the worst-rude-behaved staffed Madras Coffee House I have ever seen in Chennai throughout. The guy who is here during day time is of exemplarily miserly behaviour - he does not even allow customers to wash their coffee-sticky hands in the nearby wash-basin. He also ill-treats elderly people when they walk in to take coffee-parcel by flasks. Last but not the least, looks like he has a purposeful amnesia, right after he takes money as payment for the coffee he will ask youo whether you paid?!
St., Isabel's Hospital is known to me since 40 years as I have been there quite a few times accompanying others, couple of times for myself and have been passing by all these 40 years, never have seen/heard anything like the above. There are a few parking organizers and security who are also very rude nowadays. Hope the Hospital Management is also...
