I recently visited this gyukatsu restaurant and was initially quite impressed by its design and cleanliness. The atmosphere was cozy, and the place felt well-maintained, which gave me high hopes for the food.
However, I was quite disappointed with the quality of the meat. The meat didn’t have the natural texture and flavor that I expected from a proper gyukatsu. Instead, it had a slightly unnatural, overly tender consistency, which made me suspect that it had been treated with tenderizers or was even restructured meat. The seasoning also seemed a bit off, masking the true taste of beef.
For a dish like gyukatsu, the quality of the beef is crucial, and unfortunately, this one just didn’t feel authentic. I really hope the restaurant considers using high-quality, fresh beef instead of relying on processed or chemically treated meat. It would make a huge difference in the overall dining experience.
If you’re someone who values the authentic taste and texture of meat, this might not be the best choice. However, if you don’t mind a more processed texture, the restaurant still offers a pleasant atmosphere.

The restaurant has an amazing ambiance with lovely decorations and music to accompany the experience. The small space of the restaurant provides a sense of warmth and cozy-ness as well.
The food itself is phenomenal and the prices are quite decent for the Wagyu set you receive, very filling and all the side dishes are equally as good too. The 'cook it yourself' concept is also quite unique and this restaurant executes it extremely well.
The service is stunning, as cold oshibori towels were provided upon arrival and the waitress served us our food very quickly, besides that, they kind enough to provide refills. Upon leaving the restaurant we are also provided with an aromatic spray for our clothes to get rid of the smoky scent from cooking the katsu.
However, the only aspect we question is the lack of parking spaces for cars, as it was difficult to find a spot to park. Other than that though, it was perfect.
12/10, you're missing out if you go to Bali without trying out this unique...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Gyukatsu Tenjin Ubud, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish! I tried the Australian beef Gyukatsu and the Wagyu meatballs, and both dishes were absolutely divine.
The Gyukatsu was perfectly cooked, with a crisp and golden crust that contrasted beautifully with the tender, flavorful beef inside. Paired with the Japanese rice and miso soup, it was a harmonious meal that left me wanting more. The Wagyu meatballs were another highlight—juicy, well-seasoned, and paired with a tangy sauce that complemented the rich flavors.
The presentation was stunning, and the attention to detail made the meal feel extra special. The staff were warm, attentive, and happy to explain the menu and make recommendations. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed and memorable meal in Ubud.
