I've lived in Ubud for seven years, and I frequent the Elephant at least once a week. The jungle ridge view is stunning - rain or shine. The coffee is (hands down) the best Ubud has to offer (and I'm particular). The cuisine (breakfast, lunch or dinner) is consistently satisfying -- enticing on the plate, tasty on the palate, and wholesome for the body. My omnivorous friends who often scoff at vegetarian venues return here again and again for their brag-worthy bolognese. I adore their fresh salads. And everyone drools for their dragonfruit and mango smoothies. Their staff are warm, gracious and attentive. However, after my experience today, I feel compelled to leave a review. I'm actually writing from the cafe. In addition to their usual team of employees, there are three young trainees. Upon enquiring, I learned that these are students who the owner has welcomed -- not for six weeks -- but for six months. They'll spend three months supporting the team with guest service and three month in the kitchen. He's kitted them out with uniforms and created a positive culture wherein the existing staff whole-heartedly encourage a fruitful educational experience for these youngsters. It's heart-warming to watch and makes my meal feel meaningful. I've now fallen in love with the Elephant all over again. If you're visiting Ubud, I do hope you'll come to this lovely spot -- yes, for the exceptional ambience, service, and cuisine -- but also in support of an amazing establishment with generous ownership that invests in the...

I always visit more than once while staying up the road in Ubud and always bring friends and suggest it and they too love it- I call it my cheap & cheerful place in Ubud where I can go alone or with company and perch on a stool facing the lush jungle and listen to tunes whilst eating one of their delicious, fresh salads. I love the no fuss, simple feel of it and need to mention two highlights , okay 3 ...1/ the staff ( I am sorry I cannot recall names) who are always sweet, smiling , welcoming and attentive and always remember me and my love for a particular salad ( the Gorilla) 2/ the salads, snacks and sweet potato fries/wedges -yum! 3/ the coffee is the best I had in Ubud and on my way out on my last visit I let the lovely barista know and he was so proud and chuffed to hear he had made my day. The owner was there on one visit and I overheard him chatting with customers & staff-he was genuinely present, warm & engaging and thats the type of authentic place I like to visit and support. Thank you and see you on my next visit. Cheers Penie ps how can I forget to mention THE best...
