IBU RAI RESTAURANT UBUD BALI — Restaurant in Bali

First night in Ubud and went on a recommendation, so we had high hopes. NOT! We were seated in the back of the restaurant which was a first no no. Our server saw that we were ringing wet from sweat and commented. There was no air circulation at all! BTW there were plenty of seats out front and front end of the restaurant. But we stayed. We kept having to get our servers attention. After the calamari came and another server picked up the dish we flagged our server down to place our order for the main entree. He was unaware that we already had our appetizer and plate was gone. We placed our order and ordered another bottle of water. By this time we started to cool off a bit. 10 minutes later our order came but no water. A food running brought our meal. After we ate we hadn’t seen our server for a while. He never came to asked if the meal was ok or that if we needed anything. Never saw him again. We think it was the manager that cleared our table. So we waited for the server, which we haven’t seen, to ask for the check. We flagged the manager for the check. Another server checked us out. I stopped on the way out and informed the manager that the back of the restaurant shouldn’t be sat because there was no air and informed him of the poor service but I don’t think he cared. I am sure that it was just a bad night for us because I have read some good reviews. Btw the food was good but not great. So would I dine here again, probably not. There are tons of other...

Service: We came with 4 people to Ibu Irai and were welcomed to the restaurant. We ordered and waited for our food so as every tourist did in the restaurant (so far so good). Meanwhile we saw that other tourists got a complementary appetizer which we did not received at all (we thought that they ordered an appetizer and didn't ask the other tourists). Before we finished our food the waitress wanted to take our plates as a sign to hurry up. We said that we were still eating and that the plates can't be taken. After I asked for the bill, I asked some tourists that were sitting behind us if they ordered the complementary appetizers. They told us that they were complementary and didn't even asked for it. So I called the manager and asked why we didn't got any and he replied to us as they only give complementary appetizers from 18.30 while it was 18.20! We sat at the table from 17.15 and other were getting them too. I hope it's not because of our ethnicity that we didn't receive the complementary appetizers since I didn't see tourists from the same ethnicity at the restaurant.

The food: We ordered the spicy chilli prawns, 2 chicken cashewnuts and a beef ribs with red beans. The chilli prawns and chicken dish were ok. We had better ones in Bali, but the beef ribs were tasteless and packed with the fat...

I walked more than a kilometer to have dinner in this place. There was no one at the entrance to greet people coming. So, I stepped inside and waited. After a minute a waitress came and I told her 'table for one', and she said 'go to garden' without any greeting or smile, and pointed to an entranceway and said 'there'. That was it. I made my way to the garden where again no one attended to me. There was a male waiter in black uniform there. He must have looked at me at least five times, clearly needing help, but made no effort to ask me anything. So I walked out of the garden back to the main area to find the waitress. As I walked out, a couple of western tourists came in and the male waiter greeted them nicely and showed them the way to the garden. I looked at him, and he still did not entertain me. So as a final effort, I walked to him and asked him if there is a table in the garden. He replied - 'it is only for booking'. I tell him that I was informed by a waitress to go there. He gave me a blank look, and repeated that the garden is only for booking, and did not even offer to find me a table anywhere. I told him 'forget it, I am not eating here' and walked out. I think either their popularity has gone to their heads, or their staff are very poorly selected and poorly trained. Glad I dd not give them any...
