Lunch at AWkitchen began with promise but ultimately unraveled into a lesson in patience and tempered expectations. It’s rare to encounter a restaurant where the service staff shines so brightly—our waitress exhibited a level of hospitality that would make any establishment proud. Yet in the restaurant world, no matter how warm the welcome, it is the food that must carry the day. Sadly, AWkitchen’s kitchen did not rise to the occasion.
From the start, it was clear the tempo was off. Despite a bright and inviting atmosphere, the service from the kitchen lagged painfully behind. Over thirty minutes slipped by before any of our main dishes graced the table—an agonizing wait that left our stomachs grumbling beneath polite conversation. Thankfully, I was surrounded by good colleagues, whose company helped soften the hunger pangs with laughter and light-hearted banter.
The complimentary bread was serviceable but uninspired, setting a lukewarm tone for what followed. The salmon salad was similarly adequate, presenting freshness without finesse. Hopes for redemption were dashed when the risotto arrived undercooked—deprived of the creamy richness that should define the dish, it stood as a pale imitation of its Italian heritage.
The spaghettini with salmon roe, a dish that should have sung with briny vibrancy and subtle heat, instead stumbled into blandness—lacking the boldness and balance expected from such a pairing. It was a dish adrift, neither memorable nor satisfying.
Ironically, it was the humble pizza that provided the afternoon’s only real highlight. Crisp, charred in all the right places, and assertively seasoned, it offered a glimpse of what the kitchen might be capable of when it finds its footing.
In the end, AWkitchen left the impression of a restaurant torn between good intentions and poor execution. Warm smiles and attentive service may carry a lunch so far, but they cannot fully compensate for plates that fail to inspire. For now, it remains a place better suited for light conversation than...
Read moreWe went to this place with work colleague and end up chatting for 5 hours as the place is really comfortable. We were escorted to second stairs as the group is quite big and consists of 9 people. The downside is even we're on the non-smoking room area, we can still slightly smell the smoke as the smoking area location is right next to the door and the smoke might get inside the room everytime we open and close the room, but might be unnoticable to some. As it is an Italian restaurant with Japanese twist, I ordered mentaiko pasta along with earl grey tea, for the group we ordered pizzas and we also had our complementary bread before ordering our menu. We waited around 15-20 mins for the food to be ready. I dig in rightaway and was amazed by the richness of pasta with mentaiko. It gave a slightly spicy taste to it, but still enjoyable. The pizzas also taste nice, it has thin crispy crust with generous filling. The welcome bread also taste nice and chewy, added with butter then make a nice appetizer. We also ordered pannacota as dessert and it was heavenly, the bounciness of the pannacota complemented with the sauce. We dig in while chatting and just realized it's 22.30 already. Good people accompanied by good food will always make the time pass by quickly and pleasantly. Overall a nice experience eating here. Will recommend this place shall anyone is searching for pasta house in...
Read moreDisappointing Steak Experience, Overally Overpriced.
I ordered the Red Snapper, Quattro Formaggi Pizza, and a Sirloin Steak (medium). The Red Snapper was the highlight, and the pizza, though decent, didn’t justify the 155k price. I’ve had better and cheaper Quattro Formaggi pizzas at places like Roca, Patio by Plataran, and Weekenders, so while it wasn’t bad, it certainly wasn’t memorable.
Now, the steak. We requested medium, but it arrived medium-well, looking and tasting dry—far from juicy. I specifically asked for it to be salty, but there wasn’t even a hint of salt. You can judge for yourself from the attached close-ups: does it look appetizing? You’d be better off spending that 300k at places like ‘Sir Loin’ or ‘Pippo,’ where you can get a much better steak for the same price.
The atmosphere didn’t help either. It was uncomfortably hot, as the AC didn’t seem to be working at full capacity. The seating was only comfortable at the larger tables. If you’re seated at a table for two, expect a cramped experience with people constantly brushing past you in the narrow corridor.
On the positive side, the service was great. The waiter was friendly, attentive, and explained the menu well. They even had a lucky draw for a discount, and I got 10% off for my next visit—though I’m not sure there...
