As we never got to actually dine and try any lunch dishes at Pison, not easy to rate the food, however what we saw on the menu with photos did not impress us at all, given that we do know the cuisine offerings in Ubud well. So, we were super excited to go to Pison Ubud, had lined up for an international arriving guest to join us, for BRUNCH, as that was his favourite meal... We chose Pison because online it showcased as being The Place for breakfast and brunch, with pastries from the bakery etc. It was annoying that they will not take table reservations ( they could do that and write, like many cafes do, if you don't turn up within 15 mins of your booking time, the table may be given away), we sent them an online message but never got any response. So we just arrived and hoped there would be space. The setting looked nice, outdoor seating possibilities with small area of rice field views. The Maitre D or Front of House who greets you ( you cannot just sit anywhere), was not particularly friendly, so not a great start to our experience, but anyway we got a table and sat down, just wooden box corner seating and wooden chairs, no padded seat cushions at all, our meeting was to take a couple of hours, we would have had sore xxx by then, also it showed lack of attention to comfort and details to us. The menu was given out, it was very dirty, ripped along the edges like sorry, really needed replacing months ago, even small warungs have cleaner in tact menus! We said that we are here for brunch, the response was ' that finished at 11am' only lunch menu, then the waitress walked away. There was absolutely nothing that looked impressiv, interesting or out of the ordinary on the lunch menu. We called her back, and said that online there is a very delightful full breakfast and brunch menu and no mention of time limits etc, and she then added that 'the management have changed rules 1 August.' that was it. we showed her the online version as proof and also that in the western world...brunch starts around 11am !!! that is the whole meaning of the word brunch and so that word would need to be taken out online as it is completely misleading.. anyway, we ended up calling for the manager, she didn't care much about the situation, they just all say 'the management has changed the rules', and we could see that there was no lead up announcement on any online or at their restaurant to let diners know of upcoming changes.. So we had to get hold of our guest, find another restaurant close by that did uphold their claim to be the breakfast/brunch place of Ubud', and at the least, this manager could have offered us a complimentary juice before we left into the heat of the day and heavy traffic. ? What would that cost them?, nothing really... In customer services better to offer something to remedy the situation then to let disappointed guest go, right ? ! My husband and i have spent years in hospitality and tourism in Europe so they were dealing with the wrong people on that day.. Anyway, simply sharing our experience, if you go to Pison do check what the go is for breakfast or brunch, to avoid great disappointment. Sad to see this sort of thing happening, would we go back there for dinner or an early breakfast, no. We will go elsewhere now. We hope that this can be a learning experience for staff and management at Pison as it could have been avoided. We hope that they will re instate the brunch until at least 2-3pm - most Bali restuarants offer all day breakfasts anyway...
The best part of our experience was valet parking, arriving in a car this was handled well, but we came to eat not just to park our car !!! PS read some other reviews, and see that we are not the only one's experiencing bad service... this manageress needs a pep talk, more training in customer services, or maybe she's not happy in this line of work and could be more suited in...
Read moreGreat Ambience, great service, ok food. Thus not 5 stars as the general consensus is.
With all the rave reviews I was expecting this place to blow my mind. We were in this area two years ago and this place never existed. It was a calm peaceful rice field that was a hotspot for pictures, but now it’s a restaurant.
There are two locations and the other being in Seminyak is much smaller. This place takes in the nice views of a small rice field.
We went as a group of 4 eating something from every part of the menu. Prison Fries Chicken, Chicken Pesto Salad, Crispy Pork Belly Fried Rice (fantastic), truffle fries, Smoke Beef Pasta (can be made with chicken) as our food dishes. Besides the fried rice being delicious and worth ordering, and the Pasta which was nice and creamy the other items were quite average. One of our least favorites being the fried chicken as our order seemed to come with some off cuts of chicken pieces and were pretty much inedible...
Usually when you order chicken, it’s either wing, thigh, breast or drumstick. Two out of our 5 pieces were a weird shape and didn’t have a nice texture... This was the major downfall for us as we heard their chicken was one of the best. The sauces that came with them were a nice touch as you have three dipping options. Thus the minus one star.
The service overall was really great as the staff was really friendly and attentive. We didn’t bother to reorder the chicken because it takes a while to prepare...
The drinks we ordered were the strawberry lemonade and lime and lemongrass coolers which were both tasty and refreshing.
Overall, nice place to chill as they have indoor and outdoor seating. This place gets quite packed so be prepared to be in a...
Read moreThe brunch here is horrible. Overrated, overpriced, food was not good.
Right after we sat down, the waitress reminded us to not drink our bottled water and instead we had to order water from the restaurant to drink, very unwelcoming gesture
The Turkish egg was nothing Turkish, it was soupy, cold, no middle eastern spices, and I found one of the pouched eggs was not cooked and still had raw egg white. The toastie was very greasy.
For egg Benedict we asked for avocado to put in between the egg and English muffin, but it still came on the side. But it was ok, because the avocado was so green that we didn’t want to eat anyway. The avocado tasted watery instead of creamy. Also, no hollandaise sauce for the egg Benedict as well. The ham was also very pale in color, with the metallic sheen… it tells me that the ham was not freashly cut and been sitting in the container for a while.
My biggest problem of the meal was really that nothing seemed freshly cooked, everything was cold except for the toastie, which I don’t even know if they premade that and just microwaved it before taking out. There were so many things went wrong that my friend and I decided to go somewhere else because we can’t finish the food here. We did complain when paying, the waiters seemed confused at first and he got the supervisor to come and see us. However, no actions, he was basically telling us that’s how the food is. We insisted in just paying and leave when he asked whether we want to change something else to eat. We didnt have any confidence in food and the service there so we insisted on paying, we did get 10% discount and we still paid close to 400k for...
