Read moreI am not sure how they recruit their staff, the waitresses are very rude.
First of all, we don't know that parking in front of the store is not allowed, we just copied what the ice truck did. We'll be completely fine if they approached us and tell us that we're not allowed to park there.
Instead, they didn't gave me menu. One waitress actually was about to gave me one (I came in and sat while my friend parked the car) but the other waitress that belongs to "plus size" gestured her not to, and told me to directly order at the cashier, while mere seconds later, the other waitress gave and delivered a menu to another visitor, to their table. Such a sweet discriminative hospitality :)
As about parking, we politely asked where should we park, and their answer? "Oh, just park out front" gesturing to general direction without a specific spot, "I don't know where" in a tone that said, "that's not my problem."
Next time, it'll save us time if you just say, "we refuse to serve you because you (tried to) park outside." Or better, write a warning so clueless visitors will know it's not allowed to park outside. Or, here's a better idea, train your staff to exercise just a bit of nice behavior and consider that people didn't know they're not allowed to park outside.
Oh, taste. Overall, it's a so-so. 3 out of 5 at best. The rude behavior though, make...
Read moreMy go to indulgence place for anything coconut. Coconut water, coconut ice cream, coconut Indonesian sweets, coconut breakfast stuff. Tukies truly knows how to maximize the use of coconut in food & beverage.
For this visit (I been here so often, I lost count) on a very scorchy day, I had some Coconut Ice Cream and some Ongol-Ongol. What a perfect combo of afternoon coconut treats!
The ice cream is soft with the right hint of sweetness of coconut flavour. The additional coconut flakes on top increase the tasting the texture experience as the ice melts inside your mouth. Ongol-ongol is made from tapioca flour, sugar and coconut. The texture should be spongy yet a bit sticky. I have a high standard when it comes to Ongol-ongol, as this dessert is my nostalgia food when during my childhood, my Grandma always made me some on her annual visit. Hence I am so happy to discover the Ongol-ongol here is 90% as divine as Grandma's Ongol-ongol.
There are 3 branches of Tukies in Ubud that I am aware of, this one is my favorite for it's roomy, and comfy. Do come here for the ice cream and the Indonesian desserts. My other favorite here is the Kue Lapis (Layered Cake). Most Indonesian sweets are gluten free, so if that's what you are looking for, this is the...
