My Fiancée and I have decided to throw a surprise Birthday party at our home, marking a milestone birthday for my Mother. Family members are scheduled to fly in from as far as Australia to share in the celebrations, so suffice to say it will be a very special celebratory occasion.
As my Mother is a golfing addict, and Lady Captain of her golf club, we are seeking a golf-themed birthday cake to showcase and enjoy at the party. Having carried out some light research, I came across a number of a very reputable cake suppliers. However, my Fiancée insisted on SugarLoaf as she and her family have purchased custom cakes from SweetBrasil on multiple occasions over the years. My Fiancée is also proud of the Brazilian connection with SugarLoaf, and had hoped to flaunt this with my extended Irish family.
Following nearly two weeks of back and forth WhatsApp messaging, we have lost a significant degree of confidence in this business, and walk away feeling both frustrated and disappointed.
Our primary request (come concern) from the very outset pertained to the surface area of the cake to which the golf references would sit. As the rounded cakes from this Bakery tend to be quite high relative to their width, our initial request was for a wider surface area on top. This was not possible. Understanding there may be limitations with this specific shape, we then suggested a traditional squared/rectangular cake. While this was possible, it would need to be void of any design, i.e. the required golf-theme itself. Scratching our heads and scrambling for other ideas to suggest/query, we then asked if a two-tiered rouneded cake could be an option - in effect fusing two different sized cakes that we know to be possible. It was, however we were informed that the top tier would need to be "fake" i.e. a mould, despite being considerably more expensive.
While I understand there are limitations with cake making, and that efficiency and scale needs to be considered in every business, our overarching annoyance with this experience was the manner and demeanour in which our request was handled. Communication was consistently sour and uncooperative, and every interaction came with a palpable lack of effort, concern or resolve.

Read moreI was craving for some fresh bread like in Brazil so I decided to pop in the shop to get some, I got a bread roll two of the sweet breads one with cream and and the other not and a pastry(sonho). Just these 4 cost me 16,50 super overpriced for just a bread which wasn’t even good. The bread roll was crumbling just by touching it, I had to put in a pan to make it soft, the pastry wasn’t bad but was too much dough and a little of cream. The sweet bread was ok but the cream wasn’t the same I’m used to have in Brazil…. Was quite tasteless. I’m a little disappointed, because is not so common fresh bakery in Ireland and the ones that you find are overpriced and the quality is bad. I was looking forward to try the cheese bread and coxinha but 3,50 for sth so small even in Brazilian market they sell bigger of those finger foods sometimes for the same price and sometimes you might even get two for that price.
And I was concerned about the allergens, I ask the lady she didn’t know, didn’t try asking the allergen champion and there wasn’t a book with that information either also it wasn’t written on the label on the shelves… that was a big red flag for me, cause I know the irish law when it comes about food is very strict about this...

having diarrhea after eating 2 of those sweet little breads.......😖 Wasn’t expecting a whole lot from this bakery but still disappointed. I dropped in on a Tuesday morning 10am, the sweet bread already gone stale. They have traditional Brazilian small bites, maybe it would be better trying those. The soft breads just gone dry and the flour tasted oxidized, if you buy them home you have to steam them, baking them in the oven would make them crispy and dry. I guess that was caused by displaying bread in a heated shelf, so the bread gone dry. Next time my advice would be increase the humidity in the box storing those bread, to keep them close to the moist when they’re freshly baked. Ordered a latte as well, because staff was pleasant and friendly. However the beans tasted below mediocre, just bitter, no aroma, would recommend the insomnia next door for better drink... I heard the owner said they’re selling a huge amount of goods, business running well. Good...
