The Odeon Bar - where do I begin...? I was here for a conference 'after-party' in October 2017. Never been to the bar before, and, sorry to say, I won't be back.
The bar itself is a great space, well decorated and very moodily lit, all red velvet curtains - that kind of vibe. It is very noisy - so maybe not the best venue for a conference after-party where some element of networking over beer is expected. You'll have to shout to make yourself heard here.
You'll have to make yourself heard over the throngs of drunk 18-30 year olds who are out to get as trolleyed as they can, as quickly as they can.
So, let's start at the bar. A selection of beers, including the fine Brewdog Punk IPA. Sorry to say that this great beer is not being kept well and that the bar staff either have no idea on how to pour a pint, or they simply don't care. I'll come back to the bar shortly...
The loos? Swimming in urine, with noisy, rowdy guys (I was in the gents) berating their drunk friend being sick in the toilets. Charmed, I'm sure.
Return to the bar.
Ask for a glass of water...
Only to be told (drum roll) that tap water is not available. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? REALLY!? That's illegal in the UK. Is that legal in Ireland? Not seen behaviour like that from bar owners/managers/staff since the 1990's. Sort. It. Out.
Retired to the outside area to fine people smoking weed - so decided to call it a evening at that and left.
If you've made it this far down my review, I urge you to avoid this place and go somewhere else instead. There's an excellent basement bar nearby, with well kept beers, friendly staff and they'll give you a glass of water if you ask.
Avoid the Odeon...
Read moreBeen here a few times and it is a nice bar in a stunning old building that was once a very busy train station with an interesting history. I love the building and decor is nice. Aptly it is literally right in front of the Harcourt luas stop so super accessible especially for all those ladies in heels! (And perhaps some men lol 😂maybe not so sure for wheelchair users/buggy’s as I never noticed a ramp/lift out front but maybe they have one) it has a nice outdoor beer garden area and when the sun shines it’s a nice spot. Food is acceptable but a bit pricey for bar food. Overall it is a nice pub with busy staff but I would label this as a Dublin ‘Super pub’ in terms of size etc. The main thing I personally don’t like is the music is ALWAYS so loud that you can bearly hear yourself think making it very hard to talk with people. I feel it’s aimed mainly at the ‘let’s party’ people and that’s fine but if you want a place to chat to people after work and catch up it’s just too loud especially if sitting out front with all the speakers and the loud music kinks off around 5pm onwards so be warned for those of you who don’t like that. Otherwise,...
Read moreMy Friend brought me to this place to have lunch together and the interior is really beautiful but the service we experience was terrible! It begins with the ordering, I've ordered the Odeon Burger just with cheese and nothing else, and the waitress looked at me like if I was crazy or something but I didn't even care I took it with humor, I understand because of my "special" order, that she had this look on her face, but still it is unprofessional! There was a misunderstanding between me and the waitress I guess, the burger comes with the homemade chips and I asked if I could have the chips with parmesam and truffle but without the mayo instead, it's not clearly written that it's a mayo with those things in it, that's why I asked and all the time I was polite, so after that I just said that I would just take the regular homemade chips. Then she brought our food, with an additional portion of chips and when I told her, that I didn't ordered these chips, she was insisting that I ordered the chips and gave me such a rude attitude, that I was discusted after that. What a shame, because this place is...
