Food was excellent but the service was too rapid. We ordered apertifs of a beer and a kir royale, we also ordered wine to go with our meal. The chilled white wine was delivered, opened and poured before the kir royale. We had been expecting a relaxing time talking to each other over aperitifs before food. A tasty appetizer came soon after our drinks but the starters arrived before we had finished the appetizer or our aperitifs. One member of staff apologised for the delay in delivering the main course just when we were commenting it was good to have a psuse between courses. I decided not to have a dessert, having eaten very well, but asked for a coffee. My husband decided he would have a dessert (apple and rhubarb crumble tart) and asked for a coffee to follow. My coffee appeared as requested and was very good but my husband's was served while he was still eating his excellent dessert. At one point my husband leant on his side of the table snd mine rose. We did warn the staff about this. To be fair about the speed of service I believe when I booked the table for 6.30pm online there was a message saying we needed to release our table by 8.20pm but as the restaurant closes at 9pm (as advertised) I did not think we would be blocking a second sitting. It may be that we are out of step with modern Ireland and people do not want to enjoy their food in a leisurely manner. However we did feel somewhat aggrieved after having a speedier meal that we would have liked, it took quite a while to flag down a member of staff so we could pay our bill and leave. If the service had been more relaxed we might have spent more...
Read moreIn short the food is excellent, the specials are incredible, ignore the price and treat yourself to one of the special dishes.
My girlfriend and I visited this place about 6 months ago and just yesterday we were talking about it and she still can't believe how good it was. She ordered one of the specials and I have to say, as delicious as my food was, I had some serious food envy. I have honestly never seen presentation so beautiful outside of a Michelin star restaurant. Incredibly high standard. We look forward to going back again the next time she is home.
This restaurant is clearly a work of passion and a team effort. The front of house staff are wonderful hosts and seem to genuinely enjoy having people in the restaurant.
I give this place 6 out of 5 stars but have to take a quarter of a star off because it is a little cramped and the temperature and humidity in the room could be managed better. However it's hard to say if a change of venue or installing better AC equipment is the answer because the venue is very nicely put together and has been made very comfortable otherwise. And I think if they had any less tables in the place you would...
Read moreIf you are the type of person who does not eat out that often and is easily fooled by small portions arranged to look like real food this is the place for you. The reality is ok pub grub. We went today were greeted by polite staff and seated. We chose what we thought after reading the self boasting experience on the website after working with famous chefs would be an amazing experience of a tasting menu at 60 euro each drinks not included. What we got was tasteless food coupled with a noisy rowdy atmosphere. Others were complaining also but we had enough and left before the deserts. for 3 drinks each wine and a hardly filling combination of tasteless small courses 160 euro with the deserts removed. When i complained to caroline her reaction was they are only having fun. As I explained to her next time she spends 160 euro in a restaurant lets see if she enjoys it based on what i had...
