Al Grottino — Restaurant in Capri

After reading the reviews this was something that we were very excited to try. The restaurant has pictures of celebrities who have eaten there, including Adam Sandler. We arrived and were lucky enough to be sat without reservations right away! After that things swiftly went down hill. Ordered caprese salad upon arrival while checking out the menu. After, ordered 2 drinks, truffle pasta, gnocchi, and a couple of sides. The drinks never came. After we had been there for an hour and a half, our caprese came out as well as the sides we ordered. Those items were fine. After nearly an hour, the rest of our dinner finally arrived. The food was not what we were hoping for and left a lot to be desired. The host and server apologized to other guests for the long wait but did not say anything to us or even ask how it was. Please save yourselves the hassle and find a better option. My family had an amazing time - food and service were outstanding. I emailed with Gianfranco a week prior to our visit to reserve a table (we were a group of 9 people). In Capri, these little hidden-gem restaurants are smaller, so I wanted to make sure we would get a table. He said, no problem, we will be ready for you. When we arrived on time for our reservation, there was a 9-top ready for us. Gianfranco greeted me by name and welcomed my whole family with open arms. He suggested some delicious appetizers then took our order directly. The food was phenomenal and the service by Gianfranco and Luigi was unmatched. Upon my family's invitation, Gianfranco joined us to give thanks before our meal. By the end, we were all leaving with hugs! It was a true Italian family affair. Our favourite traditional Italian restaurant to date. We were in Capri for roughly a week and did 4 meals here and tried different dishes (whilst wishing we had had time for more!). This was by far our favourite restaurant on the island. The service, the food were second to none. The owner was so present every time and extremely attentive and kind. The waiters are all nice and professional. The wine selection is excellent, with some amazing bio wines to feast on. We cannot praise the food enough. We thought we knew a good parmigiana until we tasted theirs. The truffle pasta is otherworldly and the seafood risotto is the best we’ve tasted. The restaurant has a traditional Italian ambiance with calm music taking you to a true Italian culinary experience. Thank you for making our vacation the best! Will be back next year...
