Ristorante Hosterietta — Restaurant in Como

Simply a shame. Thinking about it now I should have contacted whatever consumer protection service they have in Italy. Among other things, we ordered the veal "Milanese", quite a safe bet for a suburb of Milan right? Couldn't be any wrong. Whether the veal grew up in the bottom of the ocean, or the "chef" of a quite pricey restaurant was just reusing the oil he fried the fish with to fry the veal. The smell of the plate was just disgusting!!! The waiter was fairly sorry and returned (15 minutes later) with a plate that doesn't stink. We hardly had any appetite left. The waiter avoided us afterwards and neither the chef or the owner came to inquire or apologize. We got a full bill though. It was so obvious that they didn't care, we were just tourists they knew they'll never see again. We came here as our first meal in Como after Roma and Venice. We really liked what we ordered. Truffle menu is great. We had tagliatelle with truffle (they are generous on the truffle). Delicious! The truffle taste is strong and clear but not overwhelming. One of the best pasta dishes we had. We also ordered pork fillet. A great dish with unique combination of tender pork, fried sweet potatoes, lightly grilled onion (also with a hint of sweetness from the vegetable itself) and the sweet potato sauce artistically presented. Smoked salmon is a good dish, fresh ingredients and a cute presentation. The restaurant has a beautiful and spacious outdoor seating area in a large squire with lighting and plants, and probably hundreds other seating from other restaurants. This gave us such wonderful atmosphere and an wonderful dining experience around sunset. It is a little on the pricey side...

I was so disappointed by this place on our dinner today. The service was TERRIBLE! and I am comparing to our experiences at our other restaurants in Italy for the past 5 days. We were the first ones their at 7pm and after 10 minutes of waiting for the waiter to come and ask what we wanted for drinks I had to call him over, oh and he was standing and walking around 10 feet from us the whole time. This crappy service continued from him and another waiter, I had to call them over to order, for a steak knife for my steak, never checked how we were or if we needed anything or more drinks and I had to chase them down for the check after waiting 10 minutes after plates were cleared finally.
