Bar Hemingway — Restaurant in Como

This used to be one of the best cocktail bars in the city. The location is still perfect — quiet, breezy, inviting. But the atmosphere has changed completely. The same waiters and barmen from the “golden days” now treat guests with visible annoyance. You have to warn them in advance just to get proper ice in your Negroni — and still get eye-rolls in return. Cocktails are often poorly made, but loyal customers keep hoping for the old quality. Now they even send you to sit on the crowded square — but we come here for peace, not noise! Maybe management or priorities changed, but why punish loyal old guests? If the staff hates the job, maybe it’s time for them to move on? Sorry but we live here and we never say anything bad to you. A bit of education and respect would be...

Nella rosa dei miei locali preferiti a Como, l'Hemingway è un cocktail bar di alto livello incastonato tra le vie del centro.

Dedicato all'omonima icona letteraria, offre un ambiente accogliente in perfetto stile coloniale, con luci soffuse, boiserie in legno scuro, ampie arcate e piante tropicali, mixando allo stesso tempo dettagli eclettici che strizzano l'occhio al contemporaneo, come il tocco ethno-chic delle tappezzerie jungle, le sedie e i tray table iper minimal in tubolare di acciaio e le poltrone imbottite new vintage che con le loro abat-jour delineano piccole isole di comfort informali nel "salotto buono", dove è possibile chiacchierare fino a tarda notte sorseggiando seduti "scomposti" uno degli ottimi drink à la carte.

Pulizia impeccabile, bartender appassionati, materie prime di altissima qualità e un personale giovane, gentile e preparato, rendono l'Hemingway un autentico fiore all'occhiello. Interessantissima la lista dei signature drink con i "classici" di Ernest, che permettono di regalarvi un giro intorno al mondo con i cocktail più amati (e bevuti!) dal grande maestro, i "tribute" drink ispirati ai suoi scritti, ma numerosi anche i mocktail (alcool-free) e la selezione di gin e alcolici.

Apprezzatissima l'acqua al dragoncello che viene servita come benvenuto e la grande esperienza (e pazienza!) di chi ha saputo spiegarci ogni drink nel dettaglio. Personalmente vi consiglio l'Uncle Gus, un cocktail speziato a base di amari (ma assolutamente non amaro!) che saprà sorprendervi con un infuso aromatico di Vermut e cardamomo, una parte di italianissimo e botanicissimo Amaro Venti e una punta finale di raffinatissimo D.O.M. Bénédictine, che da più di cinquecento anni crea la sua ricetta segreta con più di 56 erbe e spezie diverse sapientemente distillate.

Locale consigliatissimo per un drink after dinner, torneremo presto per provare anche...

Situated on an inviting alley, this bar had great drinks to offer. We had cocktails, I had the Schio Country Club and my partner tried John dos Passos. Both were superb and we were also delighted by the appetizers that came along with them. The music selection was good and not too loud so we could also have chat without shouting at each other (perhaps the owner can update the speaker system though, sound quality was subpar with the lovely ambiance they created.).
