The CAVE - Wine Bar — Restaurant in Desenzano del Garda

We stumbled across this restaurant whilst exploring Desenzano in May 2024 and it didn’t disappoint. We chose to sit inside and we were struck by the beauty of the aesthetics. The service was warm, friendly, professional and inviting! The only thing I would say is that there isn’t a lot of options to choose from for food. I would assume that this is because it’s a small restaurant and everything is cooked fresh to order….which isn’t a bad thing. Come mia abitudine non scrivo recensioni, questo perché frequentando un posto una volta soltanto è difficile oltre che delicato giudicare. In questo caso però mi sento in dovere di farlo, visto che i fattori che hanno condizionato la cena non sono pochi e quindi difficilmente possono essere stati casuali. Tenendo in considerazione i tre aspetti che solitamente caratterizzano un ristorante e cioè: la qualità, il prezzo e, perché no, anche la quantità. Abbiamo avuto, purtroppo, un'esperienza negativa in tutti e tre i punti. Sono stati soltanto due i piatti che si sono appena salvati: la cacio e pepe ed i saltimbocca alla romana. Di questi due piatti, il gusto è stato appena sufficiente, anche se presentavano qualche errore di realizzazione, ma la quantità è stata decisamente scarsa (soprattutto quella dei secondi). Le altre portate erano, in relazione all'aspettativa (ristorante che si definisce con cucina romana!) ed al prezzo che abbiamo pagato, imbarazzanti. Due esempi su tutti: Il menu recita: bruschette con pomodorini alici e mozzarella fior di latte ... sono arrivati dei crostini con pane acquistato al supermercato, freddi e con la mozzarella “comune”. Il carciofo alla romana era un solo normalissimo carciofo bollito, tra l’altro piccolo. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è indefinibile. Abbiamo pagato almeno 3/4 volte di più di un comune pranzo di lavoro, con quantità e qualità simili (la bottiglia di vino, ovviamente, è stata esclusa dalla valutazione). Classificarsi come cucina “specializzata”, che sia di una regione, di una città oppure di un alimento, è una cosa molto delicata impone, da parte dei ristoratori, serietà e professionalità. Very nice service and location, between the small streets of Desenzano. The pasta is very very good, but could be served more specially. I had delicious prawns with bacon and potatoes. But a small dish for the price. The wine is also good. Nevertheless i just give 3 stars, because of the knowledge. Our waitress couldn’t open our white wine and broke the cork. Also we only got a cooler for the white wine after asking for it. Summarized: The pasta is very good and worth it. But the all round package could use some...
