Osteria dell'Orcagna — Restaurant in Florence

An average meal but a great location. The restaurant is on the piazza with a wonderful outlook. That's where the good ends. When I sat down the first thing I noticed was my very dirty cutlery - so we had to as for a new knife and fork. The wine list is an expensive list of an average selection. The food was also hit & miss. My steak was cooked to medium well in places and still blue in others. I could only eat half of it. Even the salad was ordinary. A few pieces of the fetta were lovely but the rest was grainy and tasteless. Even the tomatoes had no flavour. As for service we didn't see the wait staff again after they had our order except when we had to flag them to get our bill. Back mid May, we stopped in for a quick snack while seeing the sights. The food was enjoyable and the beer, wine was cold on a hot day. I see many complaints of the service and must say that was not our experience at all. The waiters were friendly and very attentive. When our waiter was busy elsewhere another was more than willing to serve us. My daughter inadvertently knocked over and broke her wine glass. It was promptly cleaned, and though the gentlemen working in the neighbouring restaurant didn't seem too pleased(it had fallen over the partition), our waiters were very pleasant, quickly joking with my daughter and easing the embarrassment that she was feeling. I would not hesitate to visit this restaurant again if I am ever fortunate enough to return...

Restaurant tried to make us leave by lying to us and saying that they had a reservation at 9pm for the table we were on. When I decided to order more drinks and food, the “reservation” magically disappeared and suddenly I was free to sit till 10pm. Evidently they were just lying to make us leave so they can trap another tourist.

When the bill came, I was charged an extra drink out of the blue, and when I requested an amendment, they came back with a new bill that removed the drink but added a massive service charge that made the bill total higher than the last mistake bill. Almost as if we’re being punished for questioning the bill.

My worst experience in europe so far, only giving one star cause giving 0 is not possible. AVOID...
