If you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine with a homemade touch that doesn't break the bank, PittiExpress is a must-visit gem in Florence. Tucked near the historic Pitti Palace, this charming restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience that feels like a warm Italian hug.
The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly their homemade lasagna. Layers of perfectly cooked pasta, rich meat sauce, creamy béchamel, and bubbling cheese come together in a dish that tastes like it was made in an Italian grandmother's kitchen. Pair it with a glass of local red wine for the ultimate comfort meal.
For dessert, their tiramisu is perfection. The balance of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cream, and a dusting of cocoa will leave you savoring every bite. It’s the ideal way to end a meal in Florence.
Beyond these standouts, PittiExpress also shines with its variety of offerings. Their local beer selection complements their menu beautifully, and the wine list features a well-curated array of Tuscan favorites. Coffee lovers will appreciate their expertly brewed espresso, a perfect pick-me-up any time of day.
The atmosphere and service are top notch. It has a fun retro art, rock and salsa music theme.
If you’re looking for a quick yet delicious bite, their sandwiches are equally impressive, filled with fresh, high-quality ingredients that make every bite a delight.
PittiExpress embodies the essence of Florentine dining with its cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional flavors. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty meal or a quick coffee break, this spot is a true...
Read moreAnother review mentions the delicious BLACK C*CK. After having eaten here previously I thought this was either a translation error or a review intended for a different establishment. I’m not normally seeking this sort of thing out in a culinary experience but I went back to see what I missed. And yes, it’s there. Both on the menu and framed on the wall. Once you see it you’ll know. Unoffensive and easy to miss.
You’ll see this place gets great reviews. Any one star reviews are easy to dismiss. The gents that work here are all great. Laid back with a constant stream of people, and it gets busy at peak hours. They currently stay open from 8am-8pm (rare in Italy). They take both cash and card. The only day of the week you’ll miss them is Tuesdays when they’re closed. If you don’t want to wait then go outside of peak hours and they’ll be happy to serve you. You can eat in or get takeaway.
An extensive menu. I’ve had most the vegetarian/vegan options. All have been excellent and affordable. Glasses of wine are 3€ and there are plenty of other drink options too. It’s not the fanciest place in Florence, but if you seek quality food, good service, and a reasonable price then it’s certainly one...
Read morePitti Express is truly amazing in every way. The service whether from the owner or the chef is incredibly friendly and feels so local, like visiting someone’s home. The prices are unbeatable—we were three hungry guys who ordered 3 lasagna plates, 3 sandwiches, 3 sparkling waters, a bottle of local wine, and a dish of tiramisu to share, all for just €59. The portions are huge; we could barely finish!
The food was some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The lasagna, made with the chef’s own house recipe, was delicious and authentically prepared. I don’t think I’ll ever love another lasagna as much! The sandwiches were equally amazing, especially their famous chicken sandwich, #14. Everything is homemade, even the chicken crust, and it was fantastic. We also tried the Inferno (#3) and #2 cold cut sandwiches, which were incredible.
The tiramisu was exceptional, and the wine paired perfectly with the meal. To top it all off, the staff gave us complimentary pastries, which were just as delicious.
I highly recommend Pitti Express—it’s a hidden gem, perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just a drink. Don’t miss it if you’re...
