ONE OF THE BEST STEAKS I HAVE EVER HAD! Holy, we stayed in Florence for one night and wanted to find a good meal. I read about which dishes are special to Florence, and of course, read that I must try Bistecca alla fiorentina (steak, Florence style). We searched on Google maps for using the filters by distance, open now, and top rated. I came across Bottega Di Fattoria and based on the high overall rating and high volume of reviews, we decided to give this place a shot. The staff greeted us warmly when we arrived. We were asked if we had a reservation. Even though we did not, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. I saw that they offered steak by the KG, and I mentioned I would eat it myself. You can get a minimum of 1 KG, and mine came in at 1.1 kg. They asked how I liked it cook, and I prefer rare of course, which is the way a steak should be cooked, not just in Florence, but it is especially customary to eat Florence style steak rare. The meat was incredible. It was cooked with a perfect sear on the outside, and juicy and pink on the inside. It was served with lemon for spritz and a cup of salt. I salted and spritzed the steak to my taste, and left no meat on the bone. My wife had the tortellini with balsamic glaze, which I got to try a piece of, also incredibly delicious. I feel that I will have to return to Florence so I can also have my own plate of the tortellini! Funny enough, some of our friends wound up in Italy and also visited Florence about a week after we were there. I recommended this restaurant to them and they also loved it. But that was when we found this restaurant and Indros warm arms embraced us. We came in through his front door and the first thing we saw was this man of a man. We wanted to say something but he laid his finger metaphorically on our lips and conveyed the sentence: "All of your needs will be met." As we sat down he got to work and erotically balanced tableware on our table after carrying it like his restaurant carries the food scene of Italy. Then and there we decided this to be our best experience in all of this country. His aura and atmosphere out matching even the most beautiful landscapes of Italy, outdoing the classiest diners all through out this country. Even before bringing the menu his outerworldly kindness brought us bread and gave us water to satisfy a little bit of our thirst. But this wasn't enough our thirst grew with every minute and even the wonderful meal wasn't enough for any of us. We needed more.. We needed a dessert, maybe some cake? The one server is highly professional and sharp. Unfortunately when ordering, our table had another server. I asked specifically, what the best dishes were - and he kept pointing to the Florentine Steak. However, I hadn’t seen a single review about the steak so I was skeptical. When asked for more recommendations he directed our attention to the wild boar and ragu. I saw a few reviews about the wild boar so opted for that.
Parppardelle Wild Boar dish - dry and bland. Barely any sauce.
Ordered one dish (chicken salad) and got another. But prompt to change. If you like Korean style 기름뺀 치킨 then this is for you.
Beef Fillet - asked for medium rare, got medium / well instead. Sharp waiter was quick to take it back and return with a rare steak.
After all this, I didn’t have high hopes on getting my steak right so ate the edges and am taking the rest home. And the house red. Come on, we could do better with the house wine. We’re in Italy.
Again, I liked the one waiter. As the reviews mentioned he’s kind. But you enter a restaurant for good food and this ain’t it. I realized in retrospect there weren’t any Italians…that says a lot.
