The Most Outrageous Racism I’ve Ever Experienced at a Restaurant
My wife and I chose this restaurant for the final meal of our honeymoon. We ordered appetizers, steak, and wine.
After the appetizers were served, we waited over 40 minutes without receiving our steaks. Not a single staff member paid any attention to our table during that time.
I approached a middle-aged man with a beard and asked politely when our steaks would be ready. Instead of addressing the delay, he mocked us and tried to lecture me, saying that we should have ordered everything at once. What I wanted was an explanation for the excessive wait — even if courses are served sequentially, the delay was unreasonable.
However, he didn’t even try to listen or show any respect. He scoffed at us and treated us like ignorant children, repeatedly making the mocking sound “chichichichi” — apparently some Italian sound used to soothe babies — and claimed that it was our fault and that we had ordered “wrong,” insisting that every restaurant in Italy would have handled it the same way. Throughout the conversation, he kept smirking, ridiculing us with dismissive gestures.
Eventually, after 45 minutes, the steaks arrived, but the portion of truffle was noticeably different from what we had seen served to other tables, which was yet another disappointment. I no longer wanted to be there, and after expressing my concern to another staff member, we left the restaurant.
It is deeply upsetting and disappointing to face such blatant racism in a restaurant in Florence — one of Italy’s most famous tourist destinations. We will never return to this establishment and strongly advise fellow travelers to avoid it.

Read moreWe had an unforgettable evening at Boccanegra, where every dish is a journey into the heart of Tuscany! We started with a generous platter of Tuscan cured meats and cheeses, accompanied by delicious sauces, crostini, and bruschettas. Each bite was an explosion of authentic, fresh flavors that immediately captivated us.
Before moving on, we also shared a Burrata with a small salad and black truffle. A simple yet extraordinary dish, where the creaminess of the burrata perfectly paired with the aroma of the truffle, creating a perfect balance.
For the first course, I chose the pici pasta with ragù, and it was simply divine. The pasta was perfectly cooked, hearty and flavorful, while the ragù melted in the mouth, rich in taste and tradition. For the second course, I had the beef tartare with sweet and sour onions which was fresh and expertly prepared. Every bite was a flawless experience of taste. As a side dishes I took perfectly cooked roast potatoes and with homemade bbq sauce and spicy mustard sauce which complemented each other really nice!
The dessert was the cherry on top: a cheesecake that I will not forget anytime soon. Creamy and delicate, with a perfect balance of sweetness and tang.
Another highlight was the excellent service, made even more special by our waiter, Alex. With his smile and attentive service, he truly made our experience enjoyable and memorable.
Additionally, we were fortunate enough to take a small guided tour of the restaurant’s wine cellar, where the staff shared their passion and knowledge about Tuscan wines and cellars. It was a truly special moment that made our experience even more complete. An Osteria that radiates love for its cuisine, tradition, and hospitality. We can't...

We had a deeply upsetting experience at this restaurant.
We ordered as usual — an appetizer, soup, and steak. After finishing our first course, we waited over 40 minutes. No one cleared our plates, no one checked in. The waiter who had taken our order was nowhere to be found, and the rest of the staff treated us like we were invisible.
When we politely asked about the delay, a short guy with a beard mocked us, laughed, and even tried to “teach” us how to order food properly. Seriously?
We’ve been traveling around Italy and had perfectly fine experiences at every other restaurant. Only here were we treated this badly — ignored, ridiculed, and looked down on for no reason.
It was humiliating and disrespectful.
We told them clearly we no longer wanted the food. But instead of acknowledging that, they tried to force us to eat it anyway — as if we didn’t have a choice. That crossed a line. It was aggressive, dismissive, and made us feel completely powerless.
This wasn’t just poor service. This was targeted and unacceptable behavior.
The waiter who took our order, and especially the bearded man who mocked and lectured us, owe us a sincere apology — by email or any means.
Honestly, after this, we felt completely unwelcome. No one — no matter who you are — should be treated this way....
