Came for lunch at 1pm no reservation. Seated efficiently- no drama. Blue cheese tomato camarlised onion pizza. Nice dough but thin, it went a bit soggy in the middle but you can expect that from a thinner pizza. Regardless - flavours were nice and we liked the sound of some of their dishes so we booked in for dinner.
Arrived, 8pm Saturday night, a small glass of champagne on arrival - how lovely, I wish it had continued that way. The bread you are charged for, unlike the fresh nice sliced bread we recieved this afternoon, were literal crust off-cuts. We requested some actual slices, and recieved two... fine. We ordered our entree, "fried Pecorino with chestnut flower honey and salad" And 2x "Pork Ribs, cooked at a low temp then grilled with rosemary and BBQ sauce, accompanied by baked tomatoes and grilled aubergines with Florentine sauce." sounds delicious, right?
Firstly our entree, came 2 minutes before our main, unprompted I think they would have come together. This deep fried, luke warm, thick pastry cheese pocket came with a side just of basil. I know we're in Italy and not Greece, but a saganaki style or lightly flour coat was what I was expecting, the description had no mention of pastry. Silly me. However, still average at best.
The ribs. Ha, and to think I was going to recommend this place to a friend. Dry, Unflavoured, ramiken of BBQ sauce on the side, and Fatty. I didn't even eat all of it and it's not shocking by now that no body bothered to check on us half way, or ask about the meal as they cleared our plates. Clearly seeing I didnt eat all of it, or even half. There was a clear difference in potion sizes between my friend and I. My shrivelled oil covered aubergine was arguably the moisture my pork needed. However thank god for the wine, because that was the only way that dish was going to get any flavour or moisture. Anyway. This meal was gross and I honestly wish I hadn't eaten here in the first place.
A waitress came over, asked for dessert, I told her of my experience, she offered us dessert on the house, we declined. We went to pay the bill, and were handed over to the manager. I told him our concerns and was quickly disregarded by "everybody else seems to enjoy it". When I stood by my comments, he was arrogant, and began speaking to my male friend. When my male friend said the same complaints, the manager said "fine, the meal is free. Bye." And literally began to walk off to tend to the larger groups in the restaurant. Thanks, I would have accepted just the pork being taken off the bill, but holy moly the level of attitude and tension was awful, so in his manner of disregard and disrespect, so be it, and we left. There were at no point any apologies from him and the way we were treated was very poorly. A note, the waitstaff were nice, and the waitress had apologised, but there was no follow up after this.
The dining experience has made us feel incredibly uncomfortable, and we now also feel gross and groggy after that meal. Would...
Read moreI decided to try some steak at this place because it was about 3 minutes away from where I stayed in Florence. The initial feeling was weird because when we walked in they asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. No problem they started to look at the “availability list” and were debating back and forth where to sit us. Mind you the restaurant was about 20+ tables and only 3 we’re occupied. So they decided to sit us down (don’t know how they decided to let us in but they did). Once we sat down we picked a wine then a plain pizza and a steak (which is what we came to this place for). She asked how we wanted it cooked and I told her medium well. They brought our food out placed the plates on the table and never came back until I asked for the check. I want to say that I’m used to better hospitality given that in the US they tend to come and ask you how your steak was to make sure it was cooked to youur liking. Maybe I’m asking for too much I understand that it’s a possibility. The steak to me was medium rare, you can judge yourself by the picture I’ve attached. Because they never came to ask how everything was I decided I was not going to complain and would simply add it to the list of “at least we tried this place and we know we don’t like it”. I don’t like having bad experiences and honestly leaving still hungry was the worst part for me. I would not recommend this place that is my honest opinion paying 30€ for steak and leaving hungry is not what i was looking for. Florence has too many amazing places to judge it by just this one. Feel free to check my other reviews I have while I stayed In Florence there are some very good...
Read moreWe ate here last night with our two young children. The restaurant itself is really lovely inside, bright and modern, a really nice atmosphere. We ordered a 1,2kg bistecca fiorentina to share which sadly though was very tough and chewy, much of it we had to leave as was inedible. We mentioned it to two of the waitresses but didn’t get much feedback and on paying our bill we were given a discount of Euro 6.90 which considering the steak cost us Euro 92 really was a bit of a joke! We have had this happen once before a few years ago at a different restaurant in florence and the staff dealt with it in a much better way. They said that it can happen on occasions that the cut can be chewy and it is just down to the animal, they offered to cook us another one straight away and also offered us a complimentary drinks etc. Here no one mentioned it to me after my complaint which I found unprofessional. When I paid the bill I mentioned it again and the reply I got was “yes I have added a little discount to your bill”. That was a discount of Euro 6,90 and again no explanation as to why this might have happened. No problem at all to pay this money for a good steak but this was not the case here. Sadly it tainted the...
