A bistrot is a casual restaurant, normally with simple furnishings and service but good food. San Maurì is different in everything, the premises are casually chic, service is attentive and kind, but food is an issue to be carefully assessed.
Dishes in the menu always sport unusual ingredients and tastes, nothing is like what you'd imagine or expect: this is a tricky challenge, you'd better surprise positively and not the other way round.
Beef tartare was good, excellent meet, and a generous serving. No traditional capers, pickles, onions, egg yolk but rather anchovy mustard, sweet and spicy chutney, olive mousse. None did really match the meat taste so we did without them.
Cappellacci with pea cream, ricotta and monkfish were a true disappointment: thick ravioli pastry, salty bites of monkfish, fridge-cold ricotta and a general lack of why any ingredient should be with the others made the dish an experience one would have rather avoided.
Pasta with chick peas and mussels, on the other hand was tasty and good, a good dish from the south of Italy.
Chocolate dessert was a real treat, but rice pudding was rather a custard soup: the match with Campari and ruhbar taste was just great, pity for the lack of any consistency.
In summary, San Maurì has great potential but still a long way to go. Dishes have to be beta-tested and tuned before being featured in the menu. Good...
Read moreThe risotto I had at this Italian restaurant was simply outstanding! The creamy texture and rich flavors of the Arborio rice blended perfectly with the aromatic herbs and parmesan cheese. It was a truly indulgent experience. The cod dish I tried was an absolute delight. The fish was impeccably cooked, flaky, and tender, while the crispy golden crust added a delightful crunch. The accompanying sauce with hints of garlic and lemon elevated the flavors to a whole new level. The attention to detail in the preparation of the risotto was evident in every mouthful. Each grain of rice was perfectly cooked and infused with the flavors of the saffron, resulting in a vibrant yellow hue and a taste that was both comforting and luxurious. The cod was expertly seasoned, allowing the natural flavors of the fish to shine. It was a harmonious balance of delicate sweetness and savory notes. The dish was beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's skill and dedication to their craft. The combination of the risotto and cod was a match made in culinary heaven. The creamy risotto acted as a bed for the tender cod, creating a delicious symphony of textures and tastes. It was a true representation of authentic Italian cuisine...
Read moreSimply great place! Loved close attention to details: simple and clean interior, quick and professional service (in our case by Ylenia), good background music. All together create a very pleasant atmosphere. Now to food experience. Which was absolutely delicious! Had slow-cooked chicken salad, delicious local cold cut with Collinetta, penne with tomato and fish and pork fillet with mashed potato (with interesting twist of baked apple). That was coupled with 2 glasses of red wine - bio-organic Rosso di Forca and Manzocco's Refosco - both good choices. Could not leave without trying out Tiramisu. They put chocolate chips between the bisquits and the mascarpone cream. It wasn't bad, although I'm too conservative (and Toscanian) when it comes to Titamisu. Once there do visit the restroom just to appreciate unique washing basin. Really cool! (See my pictures for...
