Stumbled upon this gem in Napoli and am sooooooo incredibly glad serendipity steered me in the right direction.
The restaurant is small and quaint, but OH MY, the food and service are second to absolutely none.
At first glance at the menu, I wasn't sure if anything necessarily caught my eye, in terms of what I had in mind, (I was hoping for the fried anchoivies to start but they were out) but as soon as the waiter, Vincenzo, came by to take my order he attentively listened to the dishes I was in between and recommended the best dishes, I could have ever fathomed.
I began with the Caprese salad, which yes, I'm sure many of us have had a Caprese salad before but I promise it has nothing on the Caprese salad at Caffe' del Professore Add'a Signora. As a matter of fact, I do not think any Caprese salad from here on out will ever measure up. The freshness and flavors were absolutely exquisite. Best Caprese salad I've ever had - bar none. Fresh breas was also cut on the spot to accompany the salad.
The it was time for the main course - pasta with octopus, tomatoes, capera and black olives. Mamma mia! D E L I Z I O S O!!!! Is an understatement. I ended up messaging my family back in the states and another friend in Northern Italy (Treviso) to share the experience virtually. I couldn't refrain sharing with someone or anyone who would listen for that matter.
I messaged them saying I had just had one of the "BEST MEALS OF MY LIFE." As self- proclaimed foodie with the good fortune of being a flight attendant that travels e ve r y w h e r e often, I've eaten in some of the world's best restaurants and this lil' spot in Napoli just out did most of them effortlessly.
I also usually do not ask for pictures with anyone celebrity or otherwise unless it's to remember something monumental therefore I had to ask Chef Rita to do me the honor of allowing me to take a picture with her. She kindly obliged.
Lastly, dessert was also fabulous. I had a new dessert introduced to me - Delizia de Caffe (coffee cake), different than a Tiramisu, alongside an Espresso. 😋
Please do yourselves a favor, and if ever in Napoli, visit Chef Rita, Armando & Vincenzo at Caffe' del Professore and enjoy one of the BEST MEALS OF YOUR LIFE!
Saluti a te! 🥂...
Read moreIt appears that your recent reviews, where you mention that the food was satisfactory, may suggest a pattern of consistently manipulating five-star ratings on Google Maps.
Moreover, do you genuinely believe that your customers wouldn’t be able to differentiate between SAND and BLACK PEPPERS? Unfortunately, the whitewash is silly. Improve your service behaviour and food quality is what you should focus on.
original comment:
Wow, I can't believe how misleading the super high rating for this restaurant turned out to be! Seriously, where did those five stars even come from?
So, here's the deal with my first impression: picture a small bistro with a narrow layout. The waiter has to squeeze by and accidentally brushes against my seat every time he grab a dish. Not the end of the world, but that's nothing compared to the real issues we faced.
When we were ready to order, out of the blue, the waiter snatched the wine menu away, so we couldn't see the prices. Then, he went ahead and opened a bottle of wine that was three times more expensive than the one we wanted listed on the menu! That's just mean and rude, no matter where you're serving.
Now, let's talk about the food. The octopus salad with rucola was a disaster. The octopus itself was like chewing on a tire (and we're young with good teeth!). And to make matters worse, half of the rucola was totally rotten.
Next up, the fried seafood. We've been living in Italy for ages, and we've never seen a "frittura frutti di mare" where 95% of it is cheap, chewy octopus and only 5% is shrimp. No thanks!
And as for the spaghetti with clams, brace yourself. There was so much sand in there, it's like they were trying to give us a taste of the Naples beach. Needless to say, we couldn't...
Read moreWe went expecting to order Napoli pizza but learned the restaurant is transitioning to seafood & pasta. Located near the port, they do not close for siesta which fit our schedule perfectly -- we stayed and experienced a highly unusual, instant connection with the owners, the food and by extension Napoli. They do not need our review to be successful; their food quality, attentive service and joy in service will carry this tiny storefront to great success-- and enchant you with their joie d'vie!!!
The food: We split a breseola appetizer with pecorino, cherry tomatoes, salad greens and a lovely olive oil-- perfectly lean, delicious! My husband loves swordfish-- the cut was thinner than usually served back home in New England. He reported it was NOT overcooked, with great flavor! Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms punched my ticket and I ate every bite with joy 😋
A lemon cake with most delicate blueberry sauce (and a shot each of lemoncello) rounded out a perfect meal; followed by a palette-clearing sip of espresso. It was a reasonably priced under 100euro including 2 beers/2 house wine) excellently prepared.
The Service! Giuseppe greeted us and managed the 6-10 tables in the first floor dining room. Embulient, perceptive, he gave us a master class in hospitality-- without being overwhelming or intrusive. It seemed we all thoroughly enjoyed our roles: us as hungry, interested and appreciative guests and him as great listener/body language reader, entertainer and provider of comfort.
Go and help yourself to great food and...
