Here the dialogue in Italian (as I am Italian)with the waiter: Guest- Hi, is it possible to have a drink or are you open just for dinner? Waiter-Of course you can have a drink, please have a sit. Couple of guest take place. W-Would you like an ice cream? G-Could I have the menu, please? W-Certainly. Waiter come back with the menu and give literally the time just to open it. W-We have very good Ice cream if you want to give it a try. G-Thank you but I feel more like having a drink, I really need something refreshing.(and it's 8 in the evening and I still have to dine...) W-Ice cream is the most refreshing thing we do have. G-(Daje...)Ok then can we have an Ice cream (an 8€cup) to share and... W-We can not make a cup to share! G-Well then we will take one cup of ice cream and a bottle of water. W-Oh maybe I can bring a cup of ice cream with 2 spoons. G-(Well that was the idea of sharing...)That would be great... You know what? do you mind if we just take a couple of glasses of wine? W-No problem I bring you a bottle of Bianco dell'Etna. G-Thank you but I would prefer just 2 glasses of wine (again it's 8 pm and I haven't eaten anything since lunch...). Bear in mind that in this time I couldn't even properly see the menu, and I was not given much choice about the wine. As a result I spent 24€ for 2 glasses of wine, and I learned a lesson: if the waiter want you to have an ice cream, it doesn't matter if you do not feel like, if you are allergic or if it is against your belief, YOU HAVE AN ICE CREAM! The waiter knows what you need! By the way I gave 2 stars because the wine was good, it's not what I wanted, I wasn't given much choice, and was definitely overpriced for the service (and probably even for the wine itself, but I am not from the region so I can not say for sure)but...
Read moreEven though there were lots of waiters loitering (about 5 in total) - no one came over to take our order. Tried to catch their eye but the waiters far more interested in chatting to eachother and avoiding any eye contact from customers. After about 15/20 minutes I finally went up to them to ask if we order at the bar or at the table and they said “no the table, we will come over”. Finally someone came over to take the order. A couple of things we ordered weren’t available, so the waiter recommended a meat dish and we went with that, and a sardine pasta.
When drinks came out they forgot one that we had to ask again for and they questioned us that we hadn’t ordered it. The drinks came with bottle lids we couldn’t open (needed a bottle opener) so we then had to flag them down again for them to open the drink so we could actually drink it!
There was a mix up with our food and they brought over a clam pasta (which we didn’t order) but insisted we did. We had ordered the meat dish (the recommended one by the waiter) who then denied that he had recommended it!! They did bring the correct dish in the end but it was all very confusing and they waiters were chaotic and frustrating. Food was tasty so at least it was worth it in the end but not a brilliant or relaxing...
Read moreTwo stars because the pastries were tasty....but, for all else. ...0 stars. We saw the pastries we wanted inside first, we we sat down the server said they weren't available, the same pastries were served to others later. We ordered an espresso with hot water on the side and a cappuccino. The server arrived with a juice drink and barely warm espresso and cappuccino. Our only experience with warm lukewarm coffee drinks in many years of travel here. We sent the juice back and requested the hot water. We received tea which we refused. We finally got hot water but by then it was too late. We drank the lukewarm drinks simply to get on our way. Our bill was messed up and after several tries it was fixed. One of us speaks Italian so it wasn't a language issue. The server was clearly exasperated with us because we wanted...
