We ended up here after discovering the place we were looking for was closed. The service started okay, but when my husband went to the bathroom, I realized our table was wobbly. The server stood and watched me from 3 feet away as I got down under the table and tried to fix it. It was unfixable, and the second my husband returned, he tried to fix it and suddenly the server sprang into action trying to assist. We moved to another table. I felt disrespected. Next, we ordered. My husband reviewed with the server the order in which we wanted our courses delivered, in Italian. The server confirmed and repeated our order. Then I received both items at once and my husband received nothing. The server seemed mystified by our confusion as to this. The deep fried mozzarella was rubber, I could barely cut through the cheese, it gushed water when I cut into it, which makes me think it was frozen and then microwaved and deep fried. I gave up after 2 bites. I hoped the caponata would be better, it certainly looked better. It wasn’t. Sickly sweet and acidic, it was like a horrible tomato jam. Again, 2 bites and I gave up. My husband had still not received his pasta. We cancelled the rest of our meal and left. This place is a tourist trap, we should have kept walking and found a better place. Save yourself a poor experience and your money. Edit: the table itself had a wobbly stem and couldn’t be fixed, and we never requested to be moved inside. I am very familiar with buffalo mozzarella (and it shouldn’t resist a knife blade), finally, I didn’t thank anyone for...
Read moreLa Martorana is a pastry paradise that has won my heart with their exceptional cannoli and array of mouthwatering sweets. The moment I walked into the cozy shop, the delightful aroma of freshly baked pastries enveloped me. The friendly staff members were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, making my experience even more enjoyable.
Their cannoli, in particular, stole the show. The crispy, golden shells were filled with a rich, creamy ricotta filling that was heavenly. Each bite offered a perfect balance of sweetness and texture, leaving me craving for more.
What truly impressed me was the generosity of the staff. On one visit, I ordered five cream-filled plump, and to my surprise, they not only fulfilled my order promptly but also added two additional plumps as a thoughtful gesture. This level of customer care and attention to detail truly sets La Martorana apart.
In addition to their exceptional cannoli, their selection of other sweets was equally delightful. From flaky pastries to decadent cakes, each item was a masterpiece in taste and presentation.
Overall, La Martorana is a haven for those seeking the best cannoli and other delectable pastries. The combination of friendly staff, generous service, and mouthwatering flavors make it a must-visit spot in Palermo. Indulge yourself and prepare to be transported to a realm of pure...
Read moreThe waitress was kind, the service was fine and the focaccia with ricotta was exactly as to be expected. Those are the last positive remarks I’ll be making.
The focaccia ruspante was a disaster. I could not finish it, even though it was my first meal that day. The chicken and potato were dry and unseasoned. The barbecue sauce was supposed to serve as seasoning but it simply added another layer of disappointment.
The pane integrale caprese was another sandwich that did not meet the normal expectation we had. The bread was dry and completely distracted from the great taste of the tomato and mozzarella.
All in all, the sandwiches are not their best option. When the staff asked how it was, we replied honestly and they did not bother to take this seriously.
Another point of deduction were their toilets. The floors were wet and slippery, which could be a safety hazard and there was no toilet paper or paper towels for your hands. The smell was also unbearable and overall it looked gross.
To be fair, we did not try their pastries and other baked goods which might have made up for our experience but we did not feel like testing the waters any more.
