MICROWAVED FOOD AND POOR SERVICE! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!
Came at 10pm, there were only a few people seated and eating - should have taken this as a sign. My girlfriend tried to order a certain pasta, but the waiter told us they only had 3 out of the 6 pastas listed on the menu! I was quite hungry by then so I overlooked that. I ordered chicken with potatoes.
The food we had was TERRIBLE! After coming from great food at similar prices in Venice, this was just crap. My chicken came as one piece of meat with all the bones in it (like something I would get from MacDonald's or a fast food restaurant), and they actually dared to serve the pasta in the shape of a PIE! It was CLEARLY MICROWAVED. After that, I walked into the shop to see the very same chicken pieces I ordered on the shelf as though it was leftovers for the day!!!
The bill came out to be 29 euro for just 2 terrible dishes. I paid 30 euros, WAITED FOR MY CHANGE, but after 10 minutes didn't get my change. The server had the audacity to think that the 1 euro was tips, when I clearly know that there is no tipping in Italy. When I blatantly asked him for the change, he got it my one euro in LOTS OF COINS (0.20, 0.10, 0.05), claiming that they only had these coins left -- from one whole day of...
Read moreI was referred to Dagnino after watching a travel show on a US PBS station many years ago and I always wanted to try them out. Dagnino was previously known for its assortment of quality savoury lunch items along with their pastries and coffees. From my experience this year 2024 March they seem to of eliminated their traditional lunch menu and only focus on simple sandwiches and pastries. I found the sandwiches to be subpar to what i can get elsewhere in Rome and the items were overpriced. The odd thing is the menu board in the foyer was extensive but when i went to order with the waiter he said many items on the menu are not longer available. I would not recommend this place unless you want to experience the nice decor. There are many better options in Rome such as Caffe Trombetta near Termini or Caffe Castroni on the edge of the Prati district. I wish Dagnio good luck and maybe go back to their traditional lunch menu if they want their...
Read moreI've read some very unflattering reviews for Dagnino's Pastry Shop on Google and Yelp and cannot understand what these people are talking about.
On my trip to Rome in March 2022 I visited Dagnino Pastry Shop at least a dozen times and can vehemently state that these reviews are not justified.
The restaurant is inside a small shopping plaza with comfortable chairs and immaculately clean tables. The pastries are the best we've ever had and we have traveled throughout Europe and the United States. The owner and wait staff are cordial, courteous and professional. The pastries are always fresh and the prices are competitive and reasonable.
What you have to consider after reading these negative reviews is that the negative reviews are from Dagnino's competition because there is no pastry shop in all of Rome that comes close to the taste and quality of Dagnino...
